Predict that Angus Taylor will be calling for a leadership spill and a vote of no confidence in Sussan Ley by mid-2026, with Jane Hume his deputy. Taylor will reveal all to the Daily Telegraph Mirror in NSW, the Herald Sun in Victoria and Sky News, like what Peter Dutton did to Malcolm Turnbull in 2018.

The "glass cliff" is a theory stating that women are more likely to be appointed to leadership positions during times of crisis or when companies are struggling, placing them at a higher risk of failure than their male counterparts. This means they are more likely to be placed in precarious situations where their success is uncertain.
Our first and only other women leader was handed the prime ministership without having to get elected. At the time the leader who she replaced was still very popular with the voters. The literal opposite of a struggling position. It was a handball receive in the goal square. Not sure this rule applies to australian politics.

Now the liberals are in a precarious position but she wasnt given the leadership. Two other males wanted it and couldnt get the numbers.

The same observation applies to EVERY past Prime Minister in Australia, regardless of gender.

Prime Ministers (and opposition leaders) are nominated and elected for that role by their parliamentary colleagues.

We vote for our representatives in Australian elections - those representatives decide their leadership structure afterwards. The tenure of Prime Ministers, Ministers, Opposition Leaders and Shadow Cabinet members is at the discretion of their parliamentary colleagues.

The role of the Prime Minister is not explicitly mentioned in the Australian Constitution. The Constitution focuses on the structure and powers of the Parliament not the leadership - for good reason.

Gillard was never “elected” as party leader by Australians. It doesn’t work that way.

She was head of the party and prime minister when Labor won government, albeit In minority.

I’ll warrant history looks on her legacy much more positively then that of the following Prime Ministers. She pushed through more, and more important, legislation then the others put together and in a short time and presiding over minority government.

And lived through unbelievable and disgusting abuse for being a woman.

**** me dead. I was getting uncomfortable with making fun of her name. But since she chose it, it's fair game.
I've made fun of it too. But to be fair, she made that decision decades ago when she was, I think, 17 and a shearer on the family farm.

She's been an MP since 2001 and her silly choice of name change when she was a teenager seems to me to be the very least of the worries about her taking on the role of Australian Opposition Leader.

Yeah it would be great if they had more lower house seats, for this to be an issue. I’m glad you’ve seen the light.

Now I don't know if your nice comment about me in another thread was unserious as well.

The Greens Party effectively has very similar voting discipline to the ALP and enforces it. There are similar reasons Senators Payman and Thorpe sit independently on the crossbench.

Which makes sense due to their foundations being based on the old Labor left.
