Why on earth are you comparing Paton to Sheldrick? Just because it suits your argument? They play two completely different positions.

Sheldrick played a full game in the middle last week for God's sake!!! He wasn't subbed, he didn't sit out the second half, he had reduced minutes FOR REASONS THAT NONE OF US ARE PRIVVY TO.

So that’s one game now give him 2-3 more in the middle. He was very good last week if after this block he’s not good enough that’s fine.

And how do you know that isn't exactly what Cox is planning? Up until last week's game, he'd shown zero worthiness of being given the block of games that you and many on here are crying out for so I don't understand the carry on.

All I'm saying is let's just wait and see the starting line up on Sunday before we get the pitchforks out and demand Cox's head

It'll be nice just to have our captain out there again, and kudos to Heeney & Rowy for taking the mantle on game day in Mills' absence. IMO neither are really captain material so it was big for them to step up and give it a crack.
Heeney definitely an unwilling skipper but Rowie looked good to me. A pleasant surprise. Very calm. Not sure how much on-field leadership he provided.

If he’s not the uproar will be justified though. There’s been plenty of times we could have played him in a block not just this year. I don’t trust Cox to not just do what “apparently” worked last year despite being pretty awful in the last 10 weeks.

If he’s not in the inside mid first bounce Cox deserves some criticism especially if he’s answered is play a guy off half a game

You just said it "IF he's not"
How about you wait and see before carrying on like a numpty about it?

You need to chill out brother. Hold it all in an let it out in the game day thread like the rest of us.

All this speculative stress you create for yourself drains the life out me just reading it..

I’m past relying on coaches playing players where they should be though. I hope you are right but why am I expecting insert Mills, Heeeney, etc in the middle and us plonking Sheldrick somewhere where he shouldn’t be.

I hope you are right though that’s for sure. Let’s wait and see I’m just not holding my breath that’s all

Why does nobody seem to think Ollie will be sub again?
It was a 'sending a message' sub selection last week, not a tactical one. We're a better team with Ollie starting in it. Cox took risk in the result in having him sub last week to keep him on his toes.

Noticed Cox likes those subtle mental messages. He does it with his extended bench all the time even when he very well knows the player won't be playing. i.e Bowman and Mitchell this week, just to spark them up, especially for Bowman given Dattoli will be challenging him soon. Hanily is clearly the better current player out of those 3, but it also sends Hanily a message to say keep working. If the changes were forced, Cox would bring Hanily straight in, not Bowman or Mitchell.

I like it as a player development and mindset strategy, Cox is a smart man.

Can Hanily be brought in if he's not part of the announced team? I thought not? Though I agree having Mitchell and Bowman as emergencies is part of their development, being around the team at the MCG. Horse used to do it too.

He wasn't even in the top dozen candidates for the leadership group last season, so to be stand-in captain twelve months later is impressive and suggests it's an area he's focused on being stronger in, which is good for him. I just haven't really loved his season so far, so I can't say that captaincy suits him when all I have to go on are the team's performances (average) and his individual performances (good but nowhere near his best.)

For all the frenzy over Sheldrick being named on the interchange (how do we think Jordon feels?!), I'm just glad that all of Campbell, Cleary & Warner Jr. are guaranteed starters. I feel like Cox really rates what they bring to the side and I love it. I suppose the real test for him will be when we have a relatively healthy squad to choose from.

I meant if he had 4 outs instead of 3, it probably would've been Hanily in rather than placing one of Bowman or Mitchel on the team sheet
