Sounds like moving deck chairs on the titanic, it depends on the players coming in. There are 2 other reasons i am skeptical.
1) Austin is not capable at the trade table
2) If you are after Voss because of game plan, then see if the new coach or forward coach can make harry and charlie work.togeth

I am more open to trading walsh on the assumption his back is cooked
Agree you'd need to use any picks/trade value you receive effectively - you'd want to be in front when all the dust settles.

Charlie out is ok if in return we get 1-2 very good/good players in positions of need.

In particular a dynamic midfielder or an elite small forward.

Do the best teams have 2 superstar key forwards?

Trading our stars for early picks... Hello bottom 4 and hello the beginning of the next 7 year rebuild...

The gap between us and teams like Richmond and North Melbourne is paper thin. It's actually not that thick between us and the top 4 either however it becomes pretty damn thick once we start offloading our better players.

We should have what we need and we don't. That is on the coach and recruitement. It will probably take around 3 years of patience to achieve this. Most of our stars will be around 30-33 years old and hopefully our incoming talent will be brimming by then.

We have two solutions. We put in a 3 year rebuild which sees us retain our top end talent.

OR

We put in a fully intensive 7 year rebuild where we start offloading names like McKay, Curnow and DeKoning.

I think we can lose one. But that will drop us significantly (Example, the round 1 side that lost to Richmond). We can't lose too many. If we are to lose any of our stars it has to be DeKoning. He takes the most salary and end of the day he's a ruckman, so no matter how good, he is somewhat replacable.

3 years or 7 years. Those are our options.

Cmon, those are two options you think, it doesnt mean they are the only 2 options, putting aside that I don’t think Voss is the right coach and that Austin has butchered the draft, aggressive list management could change the list in one-two drafts.

Option 1. Assume TDK stays, you could trade Harry for the picks we gave the Hawks 7 and 25 at a minimum, there’s talk of Morris wanting back to Victoria from the Lions, he’s playing great and id say worth a pick around 15-20.

So you could target Starcevic to get the Lions band 2 and trade 25 for Morriss, still leaving you with pick 7 to go to the draft or trade the pick to a team desperate for points. Money saved by trading Harry frees up space next year to target a FA like Bailey.

Option 2. TDK goes, get pick 8, trade pick 8 for 2 seconds and a 3rd and target two players similar to ANB and peatling.

Both options add a returning Smith to the list, both options add 3 best 22 players to the list.

If we do trade any of our guns, if it’s picks this year, we need to turn those picks into trades for players like Bergman/Rowell etc. I’m not that interested in this years draft and adding Jagga plus Dean, Ison etc is a good outcome.

If we are to hold picks, let it be the 2026 draft where we can either use them at the draft or trade for needs. Plus adding Cody will be a bonus.

I don’t believe that if we do sacrifice a gun or 2 this year we are in full rebuild mode. It might get us the players we desperately need into the club over the next few years plus relieve even more of our cap.

if all this scuttlebutt is true we must be seen as a bit of a basket case.

Seems to fit.
2 wins and % out of the finals race with about 7 players in our squad on or close to 1 million a year will do that.

Pressure is coming one way or another

Re trading star forwards. It is not the sales price, it is what you do with the money. It is a very compromised draft
If we are trading star players then I want ready made players back in return, for example Harry to Sydney for McLean and Campbell or Harry to Brisbane for Morris and Lohman. The club has shown we can’t be trusted with draft picks.

I love Harry but the “ troubled forward looking for a new start out of the fishbowl” Is a story Sydney have written before.

Also, from the interviews I’ve seen it’s pretty clear he doesn’t enjoy the criticism of our more rabid fans.

Whatever is best for him is what I’d like.
Totally agree with that however the club needs correct compensation as well.

The draft is becoming more and more compromised, good teams have worked out that it’s not the be all and end all.The first 20 picks are generally ok but then becomes a lottery after that.

Trading in established players seems to be where it’s headed.

I could see Buckley as the head of high performance and strategy. Building up match day tactics and setting the training regimes for the guys to execute those tactics.

But not dealing with the players 100% directly, so we avoid the situation he had at Collingwood where he seemed to alienate half the list.

100%, must be good (or better than good) players coming back...
Hold on, Mclean is good?!
Campbell is a decent player and would love him here but If we traded Harry for those 2 we would be the laughing stock of the AFL.

More than happy to take picks then trade for who we want if the identified player wants to come.

If we traded with Sydney you take the top end picks like this years and next years 1st. No need to take their “ok” players imo.

Morris certainly interests me if we were to lose either of Charlie or Harry.

Make no mistake, we won’t trade contracted players unless the offers are too good to refuse and we can use those picks to strengthen the team for its wants and needs

Speaking of which, where the hell is our match day thread vs. the bye this week?

Always reminds me of this gem!

In 2018 - however it only seems like it was a few years ago

So much has changed since in terms of players and personnel

Walsh’s back being cooked has got to be one of the biggest furphy’s going around, last year was Walsh’s 3rd best season disposals wise and his best ever tackle wise, for a bloke with a crook back he’s managed to average 18.5 games per year

Is it lazy key forwards or are they just doing what they're told by the coaches? I'm not in either camp FWIW but food for thought.

Forwards who constantly dont lead at the ball carrier, do so because the coach hasn’t done anything about it. Kids in juniors know to lead at the ball carrier.

Don’t get me started on, when both Harry and Charlie are running back towards goal calling for the same ball, one of you lead FFS
