I have read through waiting for someone to say the obvious... which is the travelling emergencies give us some flexibility.

Secondly that Fyfe is a bigger body who can go with their bigger bodies, at least for a while. Ras and Johnson need to come in ready to rock and roll. If they do Andy, Shai and Caleb will be too much for GC.

I think we need to build Darcy into the team and let Jackson loose when he isn't playing ruck. Let him roam and be a pain like Blicavs.

If it is a wet game or a sodden track then Fyfe is a surprising but not bad call. If it isn't wet and the track is firm we have options.

Draper is the selection that bothers me... Wagner will go back into the Simpson role and will do well. He has become our fixit man, which is admirable.

I'm genuinely curious who people think should have come in for Dudley?

Delean and Carr aren't ready, O'Driscoll, Sturt and Walters are injured, Nicholls and Riddle are KPFs (and aren't ready).

Given the reaction that's greeted the return of a two-time brownlow medallist and former best and fairest winner I'm going to hazard a guess that shifting Banners forward isn't an option people were prepared to entertain.

What are you proposing instead?

Think we were underdogs anyway, before the significant outs with the way GC play at home, not filled with confidence by the inclusions but will give the MC the benefit of the doubt, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Are they underdone and unfit too?

Doubt it, but they are certainly wearing the effects of a season so far. If Freo can outwork them given our week off straight after maybe it can balance out. Don't need to protect their minutes played as much when next week isn't a consideration. Not going to care if they are sore on Monday and wouldn't have pulled up for a game the following weekend when it's a bye.

Who we tipping to be sub? My prediction is Fyfe to be subbed in for Darcy at the end of the third qtr. The fact that Voss is still playing suggests that JL has planned for Darcy to get subbed out from the beginning. If this happens then we will be playing with either one less small defender or one less small forward. I think Wagner/Banfield goes back and we roll with Bolton/Fred/Reid/Switta as our small fwds. I reckon this gives us the best balance from the side named.

Aish.

Of course he isn't like for like, but his versatility is the key. Keeps Wagner midfield and perhaps enables Bolton to play forward more if required.

You can’t really be planning your subs like that… if something like last week happens all of that goes out the window. It is why Banfield is an excellent sub, as he’s very adaptable.

I think Fyfe will be the sub as well, but if the plan is to sub Darcy after 2 and a half quarters, that just proves he isn’t fit enough.

yeah it's extremely risky and as you say, another early injury like last week and we're in a world of trouble. I'm just trying to make sense of it all.

Darcy selection for the longest trip in the year off zero AFL game preparation is just bizarre and stupid, as is not including Aish but including Fyfe with near zero full WAFL games (certainly no full hard WAFL runs for either Fyfe or Darcy where they ran each for 100 minutes + on ground intense WAFL game time).

I just hope we don't see both Darcy and Fyfe play their last ever games for Freo in a shizen nepo baby stadium on the worst part of the East Coast of Australia.

While I understand like for like replacements haven't a lot of people here written off Aish for the year and that he's no good?

Maybe Banners up forward with Aish to half back

I'm just gonna enjoy every minute Fyfe plays for the rest of the year. Who knows when he plays his last for us?

Brodie i kinda want to be picked just so people stop calling for him every week. He's regressed badly since 2022, no hunger and worse defensive effort than a half fit Fyfe.

Choosing to play underdone nil full intense WAFL game Fyfe in an obscure contest against a team that will draw maybe 21k at its home ground in torrential weather, instead of using Aish as the first man in to replace Simpson, is just bizarre selection.

Even if Fyfe gets through unscathed and Darcy rucks for 4 quarters awesomely - why take the risk??? Why?

As soon as Moose was out injured we needed to go ultra conservative, bring in the likes of Aish and Brodie for their farewell games, run it out away and then hit the break.

Just so gobsmacked by the selections and the process, completely undoes all the positive selection integrity from the previous 3 weeks.
