I don’t want to use it as an excuse but a massive shoutout of failure to the MCG curator.

The ground was in terrible state.
I haven’t seen so many mud piles all over the pitch before.

Having so many matches played on it this weekend d with the amount of rainfall …required extra care, which wasn’t forthcoming

It was a substandard surface to play on today

Correct. Haysey looked like a boy out there at times and was flustered when in possession of the pill most of the time.

We nursed Ned Long and Ed Allan through the “not ready yet” stages so that they're now solid contributors and able to hold down their spot.

If we’re going to set ourselves up for the future, we now need to provide the opportunities to other players - especially when a player like Shultz is out injured and there’s an understudy to give a chance to.

that was hard to watch ...... hopefully the game review will be robust and direct

[edit] conditions didnt help but some blunt conversations around f50 entries would be useful
I honestly think we were going TOO hard at the ball and the man for the conditions.
Needed to slow up a tad.
Ran past the ball and the man dozens of times when it counted.
Demons just played wet weather footy.

We need to bank wins. It almost cost us today. I'm glad Hayes has had a taste. He will be a player-but back to the magoos for now. Hoskin Elliot can slot straight back into his position. Maybe the young mid season draft pick, Roan Steele could be given a chance to see if he's up to it in the big league. He has a mature body.

Melbourne are a decent team when May and Lever are playing. May just reads the play and ball so early. So kudos to them

Our inside 50m kicks on the whole were vanilla. Reminded me of that GWS match. And I know we often do that but maybe sometimes we need to adapt. I would have been happy with scrubber kicks.

Thought we really missed Bruz.

Overall I think it's a great reminder and fodder for Fly - boys if you are slightly off you can be beaten.

Steelo amazing - Josh great. Longy was also decent.

He’s not in form, so theres no discussion to be had..

An in form Dane Swan would have helped today to.
I don’t think he is out of form though, he got dropped and instantly tore it up in the vfl, that’s not a player that isn’t seeing the ball in the air well. Rather I don’t think he is at afl standard anymore, and given that steene has been named emergency twice ahead of him, it looks like the coaches see it that way too.

That's a good assessment, and I agree.

Howe was epic. Steele has made me reassess when a footballer can peak. Lucky to have 2 Daicos boys out there. Can tag and suffocate one, but can't stop both.

Credit to Melbourne, I thought we were made to play dumb footy at times.

You're only as good as your weakest link. Lipinski would have done better than Hayes. On the flipside, we got to bleed a youngster whilst banking a win.

OTTNO

YAll day we just dumped it on a fwds head. Was horrible to watch.

Last qtr, we kick it to space and Dmac runs at it, clunks it and kicks truly. Something in that.
When you're up against intercept marking as good as them, I don't know why stick to drop punts when going long down the line rather going for barrels that are harder to read and mark.

Absolutely not “full credit to Melbourne” they deserved that L.

Every game we go against them they always scum it up with holding and thug level shit. Every. Single. Game. We play them it’s the same scummy behaviour.

Cop another L Melbourne. Not to mention that newspaper article a few years ago where they had a sook they were better. Shoulda won etc.

He shouldn't play deep defender EVER, thats why Murph was so important for Darce. Darce panics when he can't attack the ball.
it doesn't matter if he's centre half-back or full-back he's been cooked in the role as a intercept marker for 18 months now and a 2021 esque switch forward then switch back could unlock the Darcy Moore magic he had in 2022/2023 its not a WHE situation where its mentality and trauma from a nasty injury making him pass off shots Moore is a legitimate injury stopping him from his best (he had a hamstring then hurt his wrist a bad combination)
