They are incredibly ordinary. Further away from a flag than just about everyone.
This is true, but there is 1 team is further from a premiership than we are, and that's the spineless bunch of hacks who lost on Thursday night. Look at some of the names they're still rolling out...

We got no choice but to accept this list refresh and youth influx, as the current group are mid table fodder at best. Important people at the club know this thankfully

Did Bailey Smith twing his hamstring again just before he went to the bench?

I’m struggling to find too many positives. Merrett is just a cheap accumulator who doesn’t hurt you. Caldwell is ok. He was there most effective mid but plays in bursts. Obviously they have a young group. They will take time. Pretty pleased with the O’Sullivan/Caddy decision…
The positive is for the first time in 20 years they seem to know where they are, a bit like Richmond when Benny Gale took over.

Dodoro gone, Sheedy pushed out the back door, and they're playing youth.

Most probably won't make it, but it's the step you have to take before you get anywhere.

Honestly, the concerns for Essendon would be the spectre of Hird, and going after Harley as the messiah who they'll for sure turn into Jake Stringer 2.0.

If they keep their picks, and stick with Scott laying the groundwork, they'll be on the right track though for mine. Let Draper go and take the compo.

Caddy, Kako, Roberts, Durham, Bryan, Clarke, Caldwell, Duursma, and Reid with three first round picks to come is a decent base to work with.

Don’t put Duursma in that group.

I have to say it's one of the few games I've watched on TV (Kayo) where the commentators actually praised Geelong and talked about what the Cats players did (other than talking about our opposition most of the time). I guess with Huddo and Howie, we had to get one sooner or later.

I think you one were one of the posters on here that was big on Clarke pre draft. He looks like he has it. Similar to COS in that he will get beaten here and there when he is learning but has the tools to be a good player in time. Would have slot in nicely on a HBF for us in a couple of years if he made it a few more picks.

I believe, or at least I interpreted his comment as being about Essendon & the direction in which they're headed, and not a comment specific to today's game

I'm thinking Smith coming to Geelong is the best thing that could have happened for Holmes.

I remember Holmes getting tagged out of games as he was increasingly focused on. With Bailey playing his mirror, it's become a coach's nightmare. Tag Holmes and Smith will get you. Tag Smith and then Holmes destroys you. This only works because both are A-graders.

Lord pity the team that can't handle either of them, like tonight.

Is Howie a geelong supporter? I know he lives in Geelong but…
