Geelongs first rounders will not be worth a lot basically second round picks I can see the suns playing hardball, the cats will need to make other trades to make it happenwe would be looking at Rowell in the event Port won't trade Butters this year we want to strike now. With Rowell realistically 2 r1s will get it done even if that's unders-given he's ooc.
I mean how much is Rowell commanding? 1.1-1.2m? he is definitely worth that what is Collingwood going to offer that the Suns can't?They won’t (or shouldn’t) hamstring themselves into not being able to pay all of their young upcoming guys in the next 3-4 years by paying too much to keep Rowell. Their midfield is excellent with or without him.
The challenge will be GC luring top tier players over.If you had to pick where you think he's going, where would you suggest?
I've heard reports of 4 different teams as the front runner.
Hawks, Pies, Cats and Bombers.
I imagine that is contingent if Reid or Butters are available. If those two are off the table completely this year then that leaves Rowell as the lone elite mid still on the board.
Twomey reckons Pies have someone "guaranteed" locked in.
Could it be Rowell? If so, what return would you want? Do Pies even have elite young players or picks to give?
Wait....Jamie Elliott was linked to a QLD return....you don't think?

If we did, it would probably require us to find a way to get a first round pick in the next two years. Then we’d just ask a team to bid on McGuane late in the first round this year. Something along those lines…If collingwood can get an exemption for this. Scrap the rule
A bit of discussion about this on the Pies board. Some think Rowell is more inside/outside vs Long pure defensive mid. I’m in the camp that we would be better off targeting a different type.Pies are getting similar output from Ned Long who is paid in KFC vouchers but now want to burn a couple of good picks and 1m/year on Rowell? Strange
Probably just offer what the Cats offered for Smith.
A crowd.I mean how much is Rowell commanding? 1.1-1.2m? he is definitely worth that what is Collingwood going to offer that the Suns can't?
I heard an interesting phrase that he is wanting success and a stable environment.A crowd.
Is it that doesn't to Dew though? With the organic development that Dew was getting and the favourable draw Dimma is getting, I'm not sure the suns are in any different a position than they would have been under DewSurely, he has seen Dimma's coaching though and said to himself we are a much better team with this coaching.
Ok but we can't give them picks that will get then in front of a Uwland bid (don't think anyone can realistically) and we don't have any players they'd be interested in.Geelongs first rounders will not be worth a lot basically second round picks I can see the suns playing hardball, the cats will need to make other trades to make it happen
This is probably why he re-signs to free agencyOk but we can't give them picks that will get then in front of a Uwland bid (don't think anyone can realistically) and we don't have any players they'd be interested in.
They have a good 23 on paper that we probably couldn't make better and their drafting can't be improved.
What do you actually give them?
But harsh on the kid though. "Sorry mate, I know you had life plans but we're so rich no one can meaningfully offer us anything so we can't trade you"This is probably why he re-signs to free agency
Would need to be a third club involved and is there a player that Geelong is prepared to loose that would have first round value in a tradeOk but we can't give them picks that will get then in front of a Uwland bid (don't think anyone can realistically) and we don't have any players they'd be interested in.

Sorry, but that's silly argument, IMO. If Rowell wants to leave he does not re-sign and nominate club(s). It's up to clubs to sort it out. Yes, if they can't he could end up in draft but I doubt Suns would decline e.g., 2 F1. Unless the potential club would low ball Suns I think the thread of ending up in the draft is very low. I doubt Suns would agree to Bailey Smith type of trade but what do I know. But harsh on the kid though. Dew got sacked for a reason no finals in 6 seasons. Is it that doesn't to Dew though? With the organic development that Dew was getting and the favourable draw Dimma is getting, I'm not sure the suns are in any different a position than they would have been under Dew
Yeah but what's a third club going to give you either. It's not just Geelong. No one can move the needleWould need to be a third club involved and is there a player that Geelong is prepared to loose that would have first round value in a trade
They were an absolute rabble. Dew was tracking fineDew got sacked for a reason no finals in 6 seasons.

Personally,I don't think players re-sign extra 2 years while they don't want to stay with the club.
Yeah I'm just reading the headline of signing to free agency. All I'm saying is that either way, this draft, future drafts whatever, the only thing anyone can give you is basically pointsSorry, but that's silly argument, IMO. Our academy could have no 1st round talent in 2 years, or could be shut down entirelyYeah I'm just reading the headline of signing to free agency. All I'm saying is that either way, this draft, future drafts whatever, the only thing anyone can give you is basically points
