"I thought we had enough and we need to bowl. Secondly, Brian Lara is a legend let's be real. He got 401, or whatever it was, against England

For someone of that stature to keep that record is pretty special. I think if I get the chance again, I would probably do the same thing

Speaking to Shuks, he kinda said to me as well: 'Listen, let the legends keep the really big scores'

You never know what's my fate, or what is destined for me, but I think Brian Lara keeping that record is exactly the way it should be"

Yeah I would not have begrudged him for going after the record, but at the same time it feels a lot better with it being held by a generational talent like Lara against a good test side in England.

He crossed 400 with 501 and came up with.................

Apart from the mind blowing fact that BC scored 501, he did have some luck early on....

"After the early loss of Dominic Ostler to Anderson Cummins, before he had even reached 20 Lara had been bowled by a Cummins no-ball and dropped by Durham keeper Chris Scott. "With my luck, he'll go on to get a 100," was Scott's famous line"

No Cummins no Goins

Mulder was also cleaned bowled while on 247 off a no-ball. I don’t think it’s possible to bat that long without a little bit of luck. Matthew Hayden also had luck on his side when he made that 380.

Not sure about some of the triples but I don’t recall (stand to be corrected of course) knocks like Warner’s triple or Lara’s 277 or Laxman’s 281 ever having a chance but agreed they’re the exception rather than the rule

Lara may have knocked stumps on pull in 1994. Had close lbw at start in 2004

Nice guy. Think he should've went for it tho

John Howard was so impressed that Tubby Taylor declared on 334* so as to not break Bradman's Australian record that it literally won Tubs the Australian of the Year Award.
That's the folklore but not really why he declared on 334.

"I spent hours that night contemplating what to do," Taylor told cricket.com.au.

"I finally got to sleep at about 2 o'clock in the morning. I was thinking about what to do so I certainly didn't crash as well as I'd hoped.

"I think ideally I would have batted on for 20 minutes just to put their openers out in the field for 20 more minutes before we declared.

"But I thought if I did that I would then end up on 340 not out or something like that and I think people would have assumed that I'd batted on just for my own glory.

"I didn't want to send that message either so the more I thought about it, I came to the decision that the best thing I can do is declare (and) end up on the same score as Sir Donald, which I'm more than delighted with."

"I think my sister Lisa said 'bat on you idiot'," Taylor said with a chuckle.

"So she probably would have liked me to go past (Bradman).

"I reckon after phone calls to home and my sisters and everyone else, it really just came down to me.

"Everyone was just saying 'you do what you think is right and what's in the best interests of the team'.

"And I think at the end of the day I did that.

"If I'd batted on ... I was pretty well saying goodbye to the chance of winning the game."

"I don't want people to think for a minute that I just batted to 334 and said 'that's it, I'm now going to declare'.

"That's not how it went. It was a quirk of fate that I ended up on the same score and I had the chance to work out what I wanted to do."

There's a clip of Lara and Scott on The Front Bar.

Shubbys 269 didn’t have a serious chance.

Reckon Warner was out on a no ball during his triple but could be misremembering. Think he was already on a bucket load

There was a pretty long period there where Labuschagne kept getting dropped and Warner kept going out on no balls

I found the rest of the article.

Nothing to be excited about in the T20s either. Not much hope of qualifying for the next T20 World Cup if they continue play like this.
