Would you reconsider older now.
People hold back from sharing spots and marks at the best of times, even when posting about it. And Facebook is really the only place that gets exposure. Even if you posted a spot I doubt 50 of the 100 odd bigfooty fishing thread browsers will rock up at your spot the next day.Id love a board for fishos and members sharing info and experiences.
But I’d reckon it’d be a good idea to have a sub-board that’s only available to members who have posted an amount of times on the site if people share spots and marks etc.
Fishing technologies and the amount of info available in the web, recreational fishing has really boomed.
People can scan from their cars now looking for fish, live-scope and the rise in fishing charter licenses in Vic because of technologies and the amount of info readily available…
Maybe it’d be a good idea to have some areas that’s only available to the Bigfooty community.
I know myself if I go down to Kilcunda for a fish on the weekend and someone posts on Facebook there was a school of salmon on Fri night. There might have been about 5 blokes on Fri night but there’ll be about 50 on Sat morning.
Other things like Mulloway numbers are now down to about 7% compared to what Biologists estimate was available in the 70’s .
Put that alongside the fact the Vic government is set to withdraw funding and significantly reduce the amount of Fishery Officers in the state and support for that.
Maybe we should be mindful of that and avoid any campaigner punching in some buzzwords in a search engine and the Bigfooty thread comes up with info
Just an idea.
Plus finding your own places to fish away from everyone is the best way to become better at fishing. I.e beleive it or not there are way better snapper spots well away from the hoards at Ricketts Point where you'll get your bag without a boat in sight.

Highlight of my fishing career was black tip reef shark I got by accident once, about 5 miles off Darwin. Took a pic, let it go. Quite a few years back now.
Can't find the photo. Old style film shot, I had digitized it but it's on a hard drive from an old PC sitting in a cupboard somewhere. This thread got me wondering if that old HDD still works, might dig it out.
The best trip in general was Port Essington, couple of days by yacht to get there. Anyone who knows where that is, kudos.
Massive Queenfish, Barracuda (cheated on that one, snappy bugger took a swipe at me in a tidepool so... net, eat. Poor bugger had nowhere to run haha).
Lots of Crocs, couldn't go on the beach at night. Mosquitos... not hard to see why the original settlers there abandoned it. Can still see the ruins though.
Still remember shining a torch along the beach at night, and seeing all the red eyes staring back. Hard to imagine what those settlers went through, back then. Good to experience a tiny little taste, though. Gives one an appreciation.

--- my fave beach fishing spot on the Eastern side of Yorke Peninsula is a tidal flat that you'd look at once only, but never throw a line into and, sorry, but I'd wanna keep it that way.
My mates and I are the only ones I've seen fish there with any success. If I revealed the beach, we'd be standing shoulder to shoulder which I did for years on jetties until about 2010.
Locals of 20-30+ years walking along the beach look into our buckets (ignoring the fishing waders, stinky-scaly bait hands, gear, rods in holders etc) and ask "Where did you catch those?", referring to yfw, huge mullet, big tommies, salmon and occasional flathead that we've pulled out of a foot-to-2-feet of shallows, sometimes no more'n 4 or 5 metres off the shore's edge casting underhand <<plook!>>.
Of course we've had some trips of not-many fish, 3 that I remember of no fish in 15 years but as all fishos know ... it's called 'fishing', not 'catching' .

Also not a fan of light gear,unnecessary extra trauma on the fish because it takes to long.
For me none die of asphyxiation,brain spike,cut throat equals quality flesh.

Well, this one wasn't quite that long... I'm talking maybe two feet, from memory.The black tip reef shark can grow up to 6 feet long, which is a nice effort. I would encourage you to find that photo.
Pretty sure there are a couple here who could top it. Saying you caught a shark once sounds pretty cool though, just don't mention how big it wasn't.
Actually I caught a Dhufish off Mandurah once which might have been bigger. On a hand line, tore my fingers up.
There's another photo I'll have to find.
More looking for where they can be pulled. I assume the coast from NSW/ Vic along the eastern side of the country

I really need to try it properly next time. Gave it ago along 90 Mile Beach with no luck, but i reckon i wasn't doing it right.

I've watched videos on how to do it but never tried it. When I looked it up before I saw another guy said he struggled on 90 mile beach but didn't read the entire thread.
I will have a dig! literally and figuratively
