For 1.7 million he will be expected to win games for us on his own. The money is ludicrous when we have players who can do the job, but we don't have midfielders of top quality.

You can reply to this but I am not continuing this with you, have seen you and Phantom going on and on for pages. My opinion has changed and blindly defending the club when it is obvious that circumstances are changing is fine for some, but I am entitled to my opinion especially when the evidence is in front of us.
As I said previously, I doubt we withdraw the offer and if we do get him, I hope he goes as well as you think. I also hope that some on here don't get their panties in a twist when he stinks up games ( as all players do) and gets bagged out on here, and Marshall is winning games at Geelong or where ever.

Money is irrelevant. We know why we are paying what we are. What it does is create an asset - that’s the part of the equation we have to change. Marshall is 30 this year.

Dalrymple looks every bit as advertised early doors. Surely the best strategy is giving him as much ammo to do what he does best.

Who knows really? I’m erring on the side of optimistic.

Tbh we were never expecting to make finals last year (re NAS and Battle’s demeanour) whereas everyone was talking up Carlton as top 4. Maybe he’s just realised it’s never going to happen with them?

Just supposition from me but Carlton have had an annus horribilis both off and on field. Not even sure who their coach will be next year..

Nevertheless it would be difficult for him to leave his mates and I expect it’s weighing pretty hard on him. He played pretty well first half of the season so we know he can.

However, for a decade I have seen us skirt the real issue. Our midfield. There are greenhorns in Pou and Garcia, and Boxshall, but we are so skinny there.

I am now concerned, we are going for the wrong player. Wrong player in McCartin, wrong players in Coffield and Clark, wrong player in Max King, when we needed mids.
At least they are trying to fix it now but how many more seasons do we need to waste before we start to get midfield depth?
Maybe Dow and Carroll can be that depth? Too injured this year to know.

Yes they are professional, so they would be amateur if they weren't reassessing where the list stands.
And it is pretty insulting to think this is over a VFL game.
We have 3 decent ruckman in Marshall, Heath and Dodson. Dodson is 19 but already looks better than the usual 19 year old ruck.
Heath has shown today he is AFL capable and Marshall is still very good.

All three are better than 2025 TDK. It is turning into a big gamble and I would hope these people you put all your faith in look at the current situation ax it changes.
But of course, our recruiters must be correct, look at all the flags they have won us.

I do admit the ludicrous situation forced in players to be secretive all season about where they play next season is very difficult. Especially a FA. Should say he is going, but he would get smacked by the fans and media.

The Errol Gulden goal late is a prime example as to why we need a stronger ruckmen. Too often are the opposition benefiting from hit outs to advantage.

Roma has a lot of great qualities as a footballer, but is no help to our midfield. He no longer has an impact at ground level either and has always lacked footy smarts.

It has been quite a while since he has won a ruck duel. He would struggle to be in the top 15 ruckmen at the moment.

Been a Marshall fan for years but to think his past is where he is at now is blind. Contested marks are pretty much limited, lost a yard. Has the occasional burst then disappears.
He may come good or may not. Do you hold onto a 30 year old in the hope their form returns?
