I bought a 62 degree wedge the other day

After trial and much error, realised it can only be used with any consistency when about 20-40m out from green and when having a nice lie fairway.

So about once a round.....
Nothing above 56 in my bag.
Just not at the level to take advantage of anything higher

Normally on the range I hit my 7W 160-170.
Since my recent lesson I’ve been creaming my 6i a similar distance but to scared to put it in practice on the course.
Today the opp arose, 175 out, downwind, lie wasn’t suitable for the 7W so I pulled the 6i out, and hit it through the green.
Felt compression on the ball, it was like pr0n.
Lessons and subsequent practice are good,; now if I could just get my 50 mt wedges working.
Play a few rounds of pitch and putt. Most holes are 40 to 60. Excellent for learning those distances. Had my only hole in one on a 50m shot...does it count? :D

Yes. It has been a frustrating time. Should have just gone and had a lesson earlier. He filmed a few shots after for comparison. The one he used I actually topped...but it was a very good swing. Onplane and much better positions.

It would be awesome having a professional watching over you more often.
You inspired me and I went and had a lesson last night (after hitting it dogshit on Sunday).

Setup had gotten right off. Was way too open and was standing up/throwing the club head at it in a hail mary attempt to make good contact. Setting up a hair closed now and trying to hit low draws - keeping my arms and body synced up as much as possible. Lot more compression and getting a slight draw.

Then to Albert Park with the true believers for the 10pm-11pm shift to drill it in with 100 seeds....

Feel like I am in the best form I have ever been in. Hitting most balls in the middle of all of my clubs. Really good things could happen golf wise as I have never felt this in control. If I had, it was ages ago and I am definitely a lot straighter than my younger years. Not playing heaps of rounds though. Will be interesting to see if I can maintain it and it shows with on course results.

Something has just clicked.

Well done.
I give it a few weeks and you’ll be cursing the game. 😁😎

Just some Fri night musings.
Having watched pro golf for many years, those guys and girls are unbelievably talented, but I wonder how much influence a Caddy has on their performance, aside from just carrying the bag. Could it be quantified? How many shots does it save your avg pro by having a Caddy?
And by extension, how much would having a Caddy improve the games of us mere mortals?
I’m currently hovering between 11-12 hcp, would a Caddy help me knock 5 shots off my hcp?
Genuinely interested in my fellow golf tragics thoughts

My view is the edge that caddies give pro golfers would not translate in a quantifiable way to us Saturday comp players. Information about carry distances, slopes to aim for or parts of the green/fairway to avoid would be of little user to us as we don’t have the control to use that info.
Probably correct, but just having someone to prevent us from attempting unrealistic shots etc would have to be beneficial?
“Do you really want to try and nail your 8i 145, with front bunkers protecting the green? Wouldn’t a 6i be better to take the trouble out of play?”
Along those lines

If I had a caddy I'd end up blind

We be having shots before the round

It's a good question Itchy.

They actually asked Bones McKay this many years ago in a Golf Digest interview. His answer I believe was that he could save the average amateur quite a few. He felt that amateurs as a general rule underclub all the time.

I've often thought that when I'm playing well, a caddy would help me lose those stupid decisions that cost me shots. One of my biggest issues when playing well is over confidence. This obviously leads to me trying shots that I really shouldn't. No doubt a caddy would help. I think when I play poorly, a caddy wouldn't make too much difference. To lay up or not is irrelevant if you can't hit the fairway. Maybe some gren reading would help, but not too much in general play IMO.

Have my first ever golf lesson booked in for tomorrow. Really hoping I find it useful and I like the coach.

For reference, I've never been anything more than a casual golfer and I don't have a handicap (but if I did, it would be at best around 30).

I would love to set myself a goal to work towards, like breaking 100, and feeling like it's legitimately achievable.

It went fantastically and the improvement I got out of 1 single session was insane.

Strong recommend Devon Smith at Mt Derrimut (yes, that Devon Smith)

Is that the driving range at Goonawarra there? Vowed never to go back there after the shitty balls left a permanent mark on the face of my driver the day I got it

Altona Lakes. Nothing fancy, but closest one to my house.

My youngest has been playing for about 2 years now...just had his 3rd lesson last weekend. He has natural speed (prick). 5 foot 8, 63 kg.

Just hit one on radar 264m carry, 109 clubhead speed and 173 mph ball speed. (shot under 90 once but that won't be long).
109 clubhead speed is moving it, but my guess is that might be a misread. 173 ball speed gives a smash factor of 1.58, which is pretty close to impossible?

I might be posting this because you made me hate your kid.
