An AFL Hall of Famer has been charged with assaulting a woman in northern Victoria, it can be revealed, amid allegations he strangled a person.
St Kilda legend Neil “Nicky” Winmar, 59, faced Kerang Magistrates’ Court via video link charged with assaulting a woman at Cohuna in May.
This comes after revelations this week that Winmar, 59, had been charged with two counts of assault and one count of choking, strangling or suffocating a person without lawful excuse in a July 18 incident.
No details of the allegations were aired during the brief hearing and the case was adjourned at the request of Winmar’s lawyer Tessa Theocharous.
Magistrate Trieu Huynh proposed to hear the case on September 25, but Winmar told the court that was his birthday, asking for another date.

“I turn 60,” he said with a chuckle.

Mr Huynh instead adjourned the matter to September 11 and extended the two-time All Australian footballer’s bail.

You shouldn't be able to ask for or receive draft assistance unless you agree to sack everyone involved with the mismanagement

Minimum you should have to dissolve the board entirely (put to a fresh full members vote) and then various positions like head of football and list manager are instantly sacked too

If you're admitting incompetence (which asking for draft handouts is doing) the AFL should hold you accountable as a result

Particularly when you're trading out first round draft picks the year before. And have won a flag recently. Stuff em
