Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Thank **** for that! Zero chance he survives after the putrid season we have had and the fact his gameplan, stubborness and unwillingness to adapt a new setup is one of the prime causes for the sides decline (mind you, the same thing happened in 2023 before his job was on the line and only then he adjusted, but stubbornly went back to that same setup since).
Amen.

Reckon the Club won’t panic
Voss has probably known his fate for a while
Plan is in place
Before the last game of the year, it’ll probably be released that it ll be Voss’s last
We’ll take it from there
I'd go further and say that a new coach has already been selected (and agreed to come)....

Once Gawn retires and Trac leaves, Melb are gone. Back to the bottom 4 and they will have to go through a full rebuild. The question is what type of coach will they go after and what suits a rebuilding team? Will they go after Longmire as a handover coach to someone else?

The Dees have been taking lots of 1st round picks the last 3 years and have plenty of players to move on that would get them good picks, they will be fine, just like us if we move on players.

No way.

We don't even know what players are staying or going, a HoF to replace Lloyd, our CEO has kinda started but kinda not (wtf is going on there?), our current coach is contracted but will be sacked for sure (when?).

Seriously, what reputable coach would commit to this situation right now?

Horrible decision not sacking Voss earlier and just getting on with it, all we've done is accelerate a potential exodus & delay a coaching search. And I have no idea why? Did Cook not want a sacking under his legacy? There was seriously nothing to gain by hanging onto Voss for the year, we would've ended up in the exact same situation as we have now - playing the kids, slight alleviation of pressure & limping toward the final game.

Probably mimic Richmond MO...trade old, draft young, and sell it to fans.

The Demons have been taking multiple 1st round picks at the draft for several years now and have some good kids, they also have quite a few players they can easily move on to get them more top rated kids, they will be fine talent wise.

Just like us, we need to be realistic and decide when we expect to be challenging again, if players who are contracted want to leave, then we will get very good deals for them.

TDK will get us roughly pick 8
SOS will get us roughly 26
Charlie would get us two high 1st rounders
Acres would get us a 3rd rounder
Harry would get us a high 1st and a high 2nd

If we need to, we have plenty of options to refresh the list, even losing TDK, SOS and Acres will give us flexibility to refresh the list, its not all doom and gloom.,

And this is where we may have missed the boat. If we had a decision on Voss already we could've already got the process going and selected a coach like the Pies did early and got the best available. Now we have to fight with the Dees potentially for a coach.
Dees aren’t an attractive option they have interm CEO and president.

I take it movement on Vossy next week when GW takes over?

Was planning to see out the year but the news on Goodwin is interesting. Melbourne are going hard at Longmire.

Just my opinion, but the club should consider announcing Vossy's departure a bit earlier and turning it into a positive — a farewell/thank you to Vossy in the final game/games rather than sacked out of the blue in the off season.

Totally agree. I can only imagine the club wants to wait until GW is in place before making the announcement. That may indirectly add to the uncertainty among the playing group, leading to some looking elsewhere. Either way I think if a decision has been made then holding off announcing it can only lead to problems.

Only matters if we are focused on Longmire ourselves. If we're considering others we still have a free hit.

Really depends on:
  • What we think the Dees will do
  • Whether we have someone in mind or plan to go through a thorough search (which may have already commenced)
The way it plays out over the next little bit will probably give us a good indication. If we jump and bring timelines forward, you would think it’s going to be an extensive search and we want to be ‘in the market’.

If we hold, we are either not worried about who Melbourne has locked in or already have someone lined up ourselves.

I’m absolutely loving some of the reasoning being used at the moment

Get an experienced head coach? That worked well for us last time

Keep the current coach? That worked well for us last time

Bring in a highly rated assistant from a successful club? That worked well for us last time

So basically whatever we do next must not have been tried by any football club since 1890 for some to be happy 😂😂😂

The young talent looks good. I’ve been more interested in the VFL than afl over the past 8 weeks.

The talent is really young, but also developing really well. They haven’t been diseased by the long-bomb, always contest gamestyle in the seniors.

I hope with some adjustments and the right balance of gun youth and a handful of seniors that we can crack a few more wins next year.

Yeah, I’ve been more interesting in the youth as well. We have some very good good ones, with Dean set to be drafted and Jagga rejoining the squad next year. There’s much to look forward to.

The big downer is putting a line through HOF’s 2026. :(

Test number 1 for GW. If we make a quick move it looks like panic, if we stay the course it seems more like we have a planned approach they we will see through.

Not sure I see the logic in this?

If we 'stay the course', keep our cards close to our chest and keep Voss until the end of the year - what exactly would that achieve? Saves us a 15-minute PR disaster?

The way I see it, Voss should've been moved on the second it became clear the odds were against him.

All we've done is create a weird environment where everyone is in limbo and we can't even officially begin a coaching search. If he was moved on 6 weeks ago then the club would at least be able to answer the questions guys like TDK and JSOS are asking - which are likely - who will be coaching us? Who are we speaking to? What changes are being made? This applies also to recruitment - how tf are we supposed to pitch to potential players with so many questions lingering?

Optics wise, sure it looks stable and gives the illusion we're not panicking, but realistically? Absolutely pointless imo.
