Rumour Nicky 'Elvis' Winmar set to play Jailhouse Rock

It's terrible but if you read this thread people have referenced his finger pointing to his black skin, laughed and mocked the situation.

Where have people laughed and mocked the situation because of the iconic photo? They've simply opined that the pedestal he almost literally stands on is no longer tenable. But of course you're offended. You can disagree that what he did is deserving of cancelling his legacy, but diminishing such violent acts is sadly not out of character...

Why do you have'Elvis' in inverted commas in the title when that's his real name?

Is that the norm if the person goes by their middle name in favour of their first? So in that thread title it’s because when he’s in prison, he’ll be going by Elvis because he’ll be singing jailhouse rock.

Just guessing and not even sure on the first bit.

Did Tex Walker get a conviction for his racist comments or did they let him off? I can't remember.

6 games I thought. Not sure there was any police involvement. But when you’re beating and strangling women, there does tend to be criminal consequences. Generally not severe enough, but usually something for beating and strangling women.

Noting these are allegations, not proven in court.

After watching Nicky live for free in Nagambie and see his life tumble, it's sad to say but his legal team will use the basics.
Pokies hooked every cent
Alcoholism
CTE from football
Diabetes.
Racially unaccepted.
Good behaviour bond.
Used to watch him when he played for Warby-Milgrove in the early 2000s. Was given a house, car and job. Not sure if he went off the rails during his time with the Burras but was invited back 20 years later for a local indigenous round.

Remember he kicked a goal one time from what seemed like the centre circle. Insane kick.

Not mentiond was that he was also allegedly so drunk that when he allegedly drove in the caravan park where he was staying he allegedly drove over the median strip allegedly destroying the fencing, all the garden/hedges etc. And was stuck on a stump...allegedly

AFL been awfully quiet their is no self-defence argument if what he is alleged to have done is true.

They will quietly distance themselves from Winmar if he is convicted - very unlikely they'll do anything like stripping him of honours or removing his statue - that would be incredibly hard for them to navigate.

As disgusting as the crimes are that Winmar is accused of, it's not Barry Cable territory here.

Winmar's story, stand against racism etc will become a footnote.

They'll go back to working on getting Adam Goodes back into the fold.

If he is found guilty, the AFL has to strip him of Hall of Fame honours they did it to Barry Cable the precedent has been set.
Although they did keep guys like Ablett & Carey in so... you could be right.

A bit like the Gilbert McAdam stuff

VIolent crimes just don't have the same public outrage attached as sexual crimes, and in Cable's case it goes up another level.

I think they would be inclined to avoid stripping honours for Winmar as the HoF would be full of guys with historical convictions for violent crimes - DV or otherwise - I can think of a few off the top of my head. Upholding that standard would be more bad news than good news for the league.

Most likely they avoid public comment on the matter and simply stop 'using' Winmar and his stand against racism. Use something else instead.

Any reason his statue is at Optus stadium and not at a st Kilda venue ?
As I understand he didn't play for WC or Freo .
