Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Seems wright sees the issues are elsewhere, and both football department, playing personnel and injury related this year.

Time will tell.
Backing in Voss at least temporarily brings accountability to every other position in the footy department. Love it as a means of breaking the cycle of player conditionality -> sack coach, or head coach sheltering other members of the coaching panel

Maybe Wright doesn't rate players who crack the sh**s and want to leave when they don't get their way? Addition by subtraction to get buy-in from the entire playing group, rather than a few high quality players upset and moody ruining the culture?

I don't have a stance on the matter, just offering an idea on how Wright may view it all.

I'd be comfortable in saying he will absolutely not put up with tails wagging dogs.

The wording of the email is definitely... Interesting.

Seems like they are going for the public image of stability, but giving themselves an out if they suddenly decide they need to turf Vossy.

Nick Austin, will look you in the eye after not adding one ounce of skill or speed in 4 years and tell you he's doing a good job

Don't rate Moir, Cowan, Carroll, O'Farrell, Hollands?

The problem with Hinkley is he subscribes to the same sort of gameplan theory of Vossy. Obviously he mentored him.

You and I must watch different games of footy.

Our core identity is contest-first, clearance-driven, building from the contest, territory based, slow and deliberate play.

Port is much more high-tempo, corridor-focused, aggressive running with with much more speed through the corridor. They're happy to play quicker, more risky football, especially on turnover which can expose them obviously.

I'm more of the opinion a balance between the two would be a good starting point.

Cowan? Wouldn’t describe him as either.

Moir maybe but certainly isn’t fast.

Carroll and O’Farrell still far early to tell.

Our biggest problem anyway isn’t lacking a quick key defender like O’Farrell looks to be.

Our smaller players lack the skill and speed of modern footy.

Austin leaves plenty to be desired.

Very low bar if we’re praising him for that.

I agree. Wording only says he will remain our senior coach “into” 2026. Wouldn’t provide much comfort to me if I was Voss.

Hopefully he loses the coach-speak also.

Can’t stand the psycho-organisational sputum after each game.

Tell it like it f****** is & trust will grow.

This is the biggest thing for me. His coach persona is so contrived and absolutely nauseating, it's like he switched into performative mode when he did that god-awful Robert Harvey speech in 08 and never snapped out of it.

I wish he'd stop with all the industry buzzwords and leadership jargon and just talk like a human being instead of trying to be Voss The Coach™. He seemed like a genuine and likeable bloke in his playing days.

That speak would be well received if we were winning whilst he was doing it.

I am used to thinking we’re broke but this time thought it might be a soft cap issue. 😃
if you're not broke then the soft cap shouldn't be an issue.

I don't know why we don't deliberately exceed it for the sake of improving our development and coaching ranks.

the 100% tax is obviously considered a bad investment by those higher up, so we forgo a potential performance advantage for a slightly better bottom line come july 1st.

The thing I'm curious about is what gun assistants are actually going to come? Also, isn't Hansen meant to be a gun assistant? Surely him and Vossy can't both stay (Hansen also under contract) in which case we are already one gun assistant down on where we started.
We need one key appointment essentially a Hansen replacement. An ex senior coach makes sense because of a) experience, b) not concerned about Voss' tenure, and c) there's a few available that don't need to be poached from other clubs - Longmire/Simpson/Buckley/Hinkley etc.

The rest are line coaches and you want the best available but I'd expect a mix of recently retired players and others who are working their way up in their career and probably at least one or two current guys staying on. You don't need to shoot the lights out with these appointments.

I think that the retention of Voss by the powers that be is a shot over the bows of the coteries who are always the first to apply pressure on the club, to sack the coach. Stick with the coach!

I think it's an unintended result of our defensive zone being so inadequate. Our only option to compensate is with numbers flooding back, then if we do get the ball we're stuffed and can't do anything with it.

Agreed. (Almost) every other team in the competition turns those turnovers into easy goals. For example, Geelong have something ridiculous like an above 75% rate on those goals.

We just can't do it.

Find a way to change that and that alone and the outcome of our close games will change.

(Obviously there's a lot more that needs to be worked on and fixed but that's a starting point)

Parkin, Sheedy, Mathews, Clarkson, Malthouse, Kennedy, Barassi, Roos and Hardwick all great coaches and all have an inferior winning percentage than Ken Hinkley.
I know the others are premiership coaches but if we can get Hinkley to our club as a senior assistant or in a football department role he would be an excellent addition.
