Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Let's go through the last few premiership coaches:

2024 - Fagan - First time senior coach
2023 - Fly - First time senior coach
2022 - Scott - First time senior coach
2021 - Goodwin - First time senior coach
2020/2019/2017- Hardwick - First time senior coach
2018 - Simpson - First time senior coach
2016 - Bevo - First time senior coach
2015/14/13 - Clarko - First time senior coach
2012 - Horse - First time senior coach
2011 - Scott - First time senior coach
2010 - Malthouse - Third time senior coach

We literally have to go back 15 years to find the last time a premiership coach wasn't in their first senior coaching gig. As much as I rate Longmire as a coach, not sure that history is kind to that desicion. Would much rather have Wright and co. try and pick the best assistant coach available and get them in to have a fresh look at things. Skipworth who we've rumoured to have been talking to seems to fit the bill; younger, modern gameplan, done extracurricular training in leadership etc., plus Wright would know if he's a good fit or not.
Voss isn't a first time senior coach :(

The only figures from other clubs that I can gather are former Geelong that’s still involved in finals are - Shaun Grigg, Jeremy Laidler, Joel Corey and Matt Egan. There’s also Neil Balme but he’s in his 70s so not sure if he would be interested.

So if Voss does see out his contract and we lose a bunch of players this off season due to that are we to assume the board/Wright think we need to undertake a rebuild?
Surely if the players have made it known that they want out if Vossy remains the club would look at making a change to the senior coach?

Some of these players have seen off several coaches already. Maybe, just maybe, the problem is more players than coaches.

Injuries don’t explain half of our performances this season.

Last season maybe but even then the lack of proper system was glaring
Easily explainable too many injuries yet again continuity is king how many games have Curnow & McKay played together this year 6-8 ?.
Their our 1 wood .
Walsh has never got going Cripps & Weitering have had down years TDK checked out .
Newman big loss .

Our system if one would call it that relies on our best players & leaders performing .
Collectively this year they have had a shocker .

If they actually want to stay & push to regain their fitness & best form along with a better run with injuries I have no doubt we can perform better next year .
An injection of youth Dean Ison Smith a couple of recruits can create energy .
Whether anything substantial eventuates I have doubts but its definitely possible if all are committed.

Longmire inherited the team from Roos and won the premiership in his 1st year. Never won another one.

Scott inherited the team from Thompson and won the premiership in his 1st year. Took 10 more years to win a 2nd.

If premierships were easy to win and solely based on the coach, North Melbourne would be contenders this year right?

We never would have won our premierships under Malthouse if we kept Ratten instead.

Coaching carousel has been a disaster for Carlton, in-my-opinion the Brett Ratten to Mick Malthouse change set us back 10 years.

For once, hold firm, be rational & reasoned.

Conditioning and fitness has been abysmal, and not just this year. I would still like to hear the true Andrew Russell story. Nonetheless I knew we were cooked before round 1 when Jagga and Nick Newman both went down before the season.

There are many areas to improve.

I like this non-move by GW and the board.

I’m asking myself which assistants would want to come on board with a coach that has 1 year left on his contract, doesn’t sound like any stability to me at all.
So you sack Voss and that looks stable ?

Whether we sacked him or not is another matter. I’m talking about the assistants who we are planning to bring on board. I can’t imagine they’re signing 1 year deals if these are high quality assistants, therefore what happens if Voss is sacked half way through next season? A new coach brought in with no say on his assistants? Not sure how this is going to work.
