Collingwood are anything but shoe-ins, are they in trouble?

Speaking on SEN The Run Home, McRae said that he’s a coach who, ‘Wants to bring players in’, and that, ‘I don’t want picks, I want players’, particularly options that can make the side better straight away.

I don't know about you, but this man doesn't come across as someone who thinks too much about the long term.
Hasn’t stopped Geelong.

Feels like Pies have arrived at a point that many footy fans thought they would be at the start of the season - looking old and top heavy. Daicos covers up a lot of cracks on that list. Not sure what has changed in the last 5 weeks and not easy to see how they bounce.

The cliffs going to be very steep when it comes for them. I think they gotta push on for the next 2 years to chase another flag still .

The issue feels to me that they need someone to come into the midfield and its Tom Mitchell who does, a player type whose already there in Ned Long and a player type you can only really carry 1 of. The thing also is the type of midfielders available are well your Tom Mitchell types too (Jack Steele) so its not easy from here

Id be tempted to move both Dan Houston and Josh Daicos into the midfield. For half back id go to Markov and Crisp. Id be playing Ed Allan every week over a guy like Hoskin-Elliot. Atleast Allan can give a midfield rotation. Id dump Tom Mitchell and look to just play a small forward constantly. If Hills not playing give it to Roan Steele atleast. I think Houston and Josh into the midfield is the change to make in 2026

For 2025 just gotta stick with it and hope things turn around

I specifically quoted Both of you Geelong fans about the magpies current situation.

If I had to compare the Maggie's season. It seems like they were dominant for the 1st half to 2/3rds or even 3 quarters of the season until the near end.

So it could be dockers of the 2015 season or demons of 2022 or cats of the 2019 season.

I do remember Geelong's 2019 season very well. Finished top with 16 wins and 6 losses.

1st half of the season, Geelong posted a 10 win and 1 loss record. And that defeat was a 4 point away loss to GWS.

Cats had a bye in round 12. Then the rest of the season, cats felt like that they coasted. It was win, loss, win , loss, win, loss etc.

Cats ended up top with 16 wins and 6 losses and good percentage.

In the finals, they lost narrowly to magpies in the 1st week by 10 points, beat west coast 88 to 68. Preliminary final lost to tigers 12.12.84 to 9.12.66.

Cats were strong in 2019, they could of won that 2019 flag too. But for some reason magpies and tigers narrowly beat them in the finals.
Tigers were simply a better side than Geelong in 19 and 20

We were never really that impressive during 2019, even when we went 10 and 1. We had a bit of a soft run and basically did what we had to do week after week, without ever really looking like premiership material.

I more so think of Freo 2015 - looked really good at times, then ran out of petrol tickets in the last two weeks of the year.

This is what happens when you take a decent player out of a powerhouse club like Port, and stick him with some also-rans. Skill level gets exposed. Houston probably regretting the move now.

It sounds a bit perverted but I am almost hoping Collingwood bounces back and either makes a GF or goes all the way. This just to prove to people that every year we see the premiers at some point have a hiccup, loss of form, some bad losses etc.

Collingwood has sustained a very good position all year. They’ll go back to basics and back in their systems again. There’s no doubt there’s an over reliance on Daicos however they have a team first approach and I’d back them to respond next week.

Like I said, every year there’s a glitch. The premiers have a patch of bad form. I am still backing Collingwood to go deep in the finals.
Said early on in the year that Collingwood was winning based on aura. Teams begin to push them then take the foot off, expecting the pies to come back hard.

When teams dont take the foot off, the pies have no answer

Several weeks ago they were resting players strategically. Keeping em fresh for finals. They looked bullet proof at that stage.

Last night they looked okay in parts, the pressure was okay early, but they had no midfield run. The system was visible but it was static.

By qtr 2 they were falling apart, arguing with each other, and the Hawks refused to give them what they wanted (very few long balls to tall defenders), and the defence crumbled. Hawks didn't lose their heads, they played smart, and on their own terms.

Pies occasionally found some defensive possession which turned into attacks, but the forward line was impotent, and Sicily frequently outmuscled and outsmarted bigger oppo.

It was a great hawthorn performance. The coach will be rapt with his own performance, sent Fly home in an end of season panic about what can be done the next 2 weeks.

A young vital mob that got the ball first beats up on a creaking slow mob without much of a midfield Everything is obvious in retrospect!

Did tell you Collingwood needs to restructure their list at seasons end need to move on old players time to eject some young talent finally and time to think about different plans to their game style and strategy 2023 was great but now need to actually plan and plot our next premiership in say 2 years time it will be after Pendlebury and Sidebottom tho must plan for the future and look past the old present you can also in fact plan for life after Craig McRae besides I'll only give him one more season then it's over to Justin Leppish forget this season move onto next season and well into the future

Heard a few of the boys battled gastro during the week.

I reckon they get a pass for tonight's performance.
However, if they get easily handled next week over in Adelaide, they have serious issues.

Adelaide will absolutely win by 10 goals or more

Could’ve stopped here.

Everyone is waking up. I’ve been saying it all season. Even when they won their premiership they were average. Carried by umpiring and luck. No wonder they were a flash in the pan.

The flag was gifted to them repeatedly and in the dieing minutes of the gf

Are the Pies imploding? Plenty of reports that there are some disgruntled players who feel they aren't being fairly compensated while the Pies splash cash on B graders like Perryman and Silvagni.

McCreery liking this hit piece on the Pies list management.
