Autopsy Round 22 = Hawthorn 110-46 Collingwood

Question for those that would know better than I, I heard that gastro ran through the club during the week, is this the case? This would explain a number of moves made by the coaches and how we played (low tackles low energy mistakes we generally don't make etc).
I have no idea, but there is something going on. We played so poorly, so slow, so unco.

Maybe just wishful thinking, but something is right - its an entire team thing

Comparing 2023 and 2025 W/L record probably needs to stop. Take it week by week. It's not a legitimate comparison, it's been a very long time with multiple changes in personnel. This is a different side now and we're seeing that in real time.

thats 5 weeks of form
we have close to 3 months of bad up and down form.

Is form a real thing, it can only be appraised after an event so its a description of performance but is it a fact about ongoing performance. Does it predict the future. There's a team's ceiling, and when you dont see that, has their ceiling gone or are they not reaching it.

We can't put a positive spin on last night in any way. But if you look at the last 5 games, we could, and should have won at least 2 of the ones we lost.
There is no doubt we are in a world of hurt and trouble at the moment, but I will take where we are this year compared to last and we still have an opportunity to turn it around.
The thing that gives me the most hope is in this queston. Are we as bad as we showed last night? The answer is NO!

I would be very surprised if the players don't call a players only meeting after this. They have a major elephant in the room that they need to address, they are no longer playing for each other, show absolutely no effort.

Have popped into multiple training sessions this season. A couple in late Jan/early Feb had me thinking that we looked red hot and could be a serious team this season. The first half of the season came as no surprise. However, the sessions i've watched over the past few weeks have been very underwhelming to the eye. Just a strange vibe during these sessions and it's been no surprise to see our gameday form fall off a cliff.

To have a 20 goal turnaround to a side in the space of 10 weeks is just crazy. It's not just one single issue. It's a culmination of coaches, players, HP staff, the list goes on. I'm genuinely fascinated to see the response next week. A few heads need to roll in the playing group. Membrey, Hoskin-Elliott and Long are 3 for starters.

The boys need to come out next week and show some fcukin mongrel. Got absolutely bullied by the pack of campaigners from Dingley. It was embarrassing and they should be ashamed of the effort. It was nice of the boys to pop in to the Hawks open training session and offer up our players as witches hats.

Afternoon all. I am relatively new here and enjoy the banter. I have been a member since my father purchased me a season ticket in the rush stand at Victoria Park in 1982. Pretty sure we are all struggling today so I thought I would pass this on for what it’s worth. I have two really good mates both incredibly decent guys who are ex AFL players. They’re still significantly involved in the game. One of them is a two times premiership player in the last 15 years. I had coffee with them this morning. Neither of them played for or supported Collingwood. These are a couple of their observations.
1 we have been massively loading up training and have been unlucky with some injuries to complementary players that had a compounding impact (Hill and Mcreery, Frampton, Howe).
2 If confidence is slightly off in a playing group the gap between teams can be massive and can look bigger than what it is. 3 Howe’s out was enormous and had a huge impact both for losing him, but also for Really screwing the structure. It left Frampton terribly exposed when he needed a game to get a bit of confidence back. 4 We’ve played three games in the past month against teams who have essentially been playing their grand final. 5 Our best is not far away and come finals. We will feel that we can beat anyone anywhere. 6 MacRae‘s press conference was a strong message to the team. 7 It’s a new season come September. Don’t lose faith. The conversation from impartial, intelligent, connected ex-players who aren’t solving for sensationalism was helpful - passing it on for what it’s worth. Have a good day all.
Very sensible, thank you sir

To be fair, jan/feb training is deliberately different compared to sessions deep into the grind of a season.

Sh!t, I wish we were seeing it in pretend time!

Brisbane won it from 5th last year. Sometimes when you want something really badly like most fans do. they end up in an anxious rabbit holes. We were first 2 years ago, and the majority of fans had lost all faith by the end of the home and away. Remember that. First and most had given up hope. This time around we are a bit older, somethings didn't go as expected i.e., re freo and gold coast, fk it, that's how it goes. We need to win 4 instead of 3 in September with a rest week in the lead up. We are a club with a great history in finals, they will give it everything. We arent carlton.
We're not Brisbane of 2024. There's a big difference. Even then the Lions rode their luck against GWS and Geelong. Very lucky in both games.

This is the last post I will read from this thread. Thanks for the positivity 😊

OK last one - Darcy Cameron got his butt kicked 😭😭😭

Credit where its due to Meek. Wasn't going to let DC drop back in defence. Pushed forward at any opportunity and took some huge clunks. DC looks tired but you start to wonder how much this contract talk regarding he and a number of others is starting to impact the group.

Love this and welcome Pete - good to have another Pete on board - and someone making a balanced observation is more than welcome

Darcy Cameron has low key been kinda average for a while now

But you know...."iNtErCePt MaRkS!"

He's looked spent for some time. Probably one of the ones we should have actually rested but didn't.

If Cox wasn't a total liability then we probably could have. Without DC, we have not a single player capable of taking a contested mark.

Thanks for that. I think quite a few of us needed it! 😉

Pretty similar to the game against them last year in round 19.
I had a migraine and couldn’t go to the game. When I saw how we played, I wasn’t unhappy I missed going!

133 - 67 so a 66 point thrashing.
They were in front all day and won every quarter.

Why does this team do this to us?

2023, bullied by them then too when Nick did his knee.

They won that one by 32 points.

I just hate how they turn us into the fat kid on the playground whose lunch money is stolen by the bully.

We're talking about a bunch of young outstanding footballers coming up against a much older and slower side. They would feel confident every time we play them. Their coach is a genius who would be drumming that into their heads. Having said that, they only have to be slightly off their game for us to beat them. The problem is that they always feel confident against us
