It was a good answer but they are slightly different situations IMO, Kelly was 24 at the time and actually increased his value with an AA year when the Cats held him to his contract

Marshall and Steele are on the opposite trajectory; both will be 31 at the end of their contracts and their trade value will be significantly diminished compared to now. If TDK comes across and both Nas and Windy stay, they become surplus to needs

Obviously it is correct to posture that we do not intend to trade them, but it would be negligent not to consider it if the right offer came along
Presumably he meant they’re contracted, they can’t walk.
Power is with the club.

Maybe there's a chance Nas stays if Lyon's narrative of wanting to go up a level and sign a bigger contract has any truth to it. Windy sounds gone though. Possibly traded for Aleer (which I hate). I still think Nas is 85% likely to be gone as well.

The most definitive language came when he was talking about not trading contracted players. That's the strongest indicator that Steele and Marshall will be around next year, despite potentially asking for a trade (ala Kelly)

Pains me to say it but our club probably owes Eddie a decent sized thank you. It felt like Ed was there to act as the interviewer and referee letting it all happen on Ross' terms.

Ross would look unprofessional if he came out and said what Ed said about Nas - but if Eds comments/source isn't from Ross himself I'd be shocked.

I'm torn on Windy. His improvement has been huge, can now find the footy consistently, runs great patterns and executes his skills. He isn't an $800k player, but he is a heart and soul type. This is what happens when you offer that kind of coin to Leek. I'd be pretty flat if our equal best NGA player walks.

Eddie’s always liked us. One of the few in the media who usually gives us a fair go.

But Giants can't afford that money for Windy. They can barely afford their current list.

I reckon it was more a pointed comment that if you want them, the clubs will need to pay.
Made the point to talk about Chris Scott in that unless the club gets what it wants the player stays.
Nothing in that said that either player will be 100% here next year.
Ross has spent enough time in the media to give just enough without giving all of it away.

Why would Eddie have better mail than Ross.

Ross doesn’t seem to want to say much so maybe Ed should get back in his box and let everything play out in good time.
Because he has contacts that Ross doesn’t have.

He may for instance be on good terms with Ben Williams, whereas Williams wouldn’t be giving us anything.

Ross will know all of this.

Ross also knows when to pull the trigger on something or when not to and let others speak.

He just gave an entire segment where he pulled triggers on journos but….. did nothing with Ed’s news.

It’s not always about what Ross says. It’s inbetween the lines with him aswell.

Always two sides to a dispute, seems harsh to just pin it on SoS imo, Has Carlton made a genuine attempt to repair the situation? I'm out of the loop to say, but maybe they haven't, maybe SoS is genuinely hurt that his professionalism, integrity and character were questioned not just by the CEO but by the entire board (because the decision to sack a club legend isn't made by one person)

ultimately, I just think it's a bit hysterical that the assumption is that it's SoS's fault and by extension he's going to do a shit job for us
Nowhere did I say the dispute itself was SOS fault. Maybe he was treated like crap, I don't know.

It was his decision to not turn up though. What about catching up with the 20 blokes you shared a life changing moment with?

Obviously SOS's feelings a little bit more important than that.

Surely his ego can get over whatever the criticism was by now? Carlton football club is bigger than the ex CEO and a few board members who sacked him 5 years ago.

Life goes on, it's a cut throat industry. Suck it up.

As annoying as Eddie is with the pies he often defends and promotes stkilda in the media.

Geez that makes me happy we have RTB. Many other supporters would kill for a leader like him at their club.
Opposition supporters (and even some of our own supporters) don't seem to understand, but what he's doing off-field to rebuild the St Kilda Football Club from the ground up can't be overstated. I am really grateful he's our Coach, even if the on-field hasn't matched the impact he's had off-field (yet).

Even his comment on FC about being happy that the Nas on his shoulders clip leaked - he understands that St Kilda hasn't been relevant in a decade. He's trying to rebuild a culture and rebuild an entire brand - and part of that includes turning over the list (and not always in ways we've understood or approved of at the time). He's moulding our young players in his image - training standards, work ethic, want and desire etc.

There's a reason our players love him.

Which one of you made this?

He said ā€œI have not spoken to Harleyā€ it was very cleverly worded, he never said ā€œweā€.
Did the same thing re Finn Callaghan earlier in the year.

Made it sound like we hadn’t had a serious crack at him, because HE hadn’t spoken to him directly, but we clearly did, hence Finn himself saying in an interview just after he re-signed that the offer was so significant that he had to go and talk about it with his family.

And that a big part of the reason he didn’t take us up on it was because he didn’t want to have to deal with the pressure and scrutiny that signing such an offer would bring.

Ross is a very very shrewd operator.

Re him saying that Watson was ā€œwrongā€, all it would take would be for Tim to have been off on one of the numbers and that would open the door for Ross to come out and say categorically that it’s wrong.

Which wouldn’t be a lie, but it could easily have the desired effect, which is to throw people off the scent.

Speak for yourself.

Half the bed-wetting nancy boys in here would burst into tears if you raised your voice at them.

Don't ****ing lump me in with these simps.

Could count on one hand the blokes still equipped with a standard issue spine!
some of them cant finish in the circle unless someone is yelling at them
