I think Saints clearly have a lower ceiling on Windy's output than he and his management do.
Which hurts because he's a home grown academy kid and has actually come on really well recently.
I think he'll shop himself around and see what interest there is, take it to the Saints with the idea of them getting a win win on $ and length of deal and hopefully re-signs.
As long as parties are comfortable that this is how business gets done these days.

The problem with Windhager is his management think he’s worth $800,000+ per season, the club think he’s not worth that. The club is right.
Still trying to figure out what numbers Macrae wore at carlton....also now unsure of what number aleer wears at carlton as wellI reckon it’s a massive mistake. We’d be chasing him if he was at Carlton.

As much as you pay them to come overWhat is Aleer and TDK worth?
If another club offers him $850k he'd be crazy to pass it up so he should go with our blessing.
I think he's at best a $650k player at the moment. And if this is the list management team being disciplined with player contracts (TDK aside.....) then all for driving a hard bargain.
As much as you pay them to come over
replace him with Boxshall, Travaglia etc...its not as hard as you thinkYou have to replace him and it won’t be cheaper. Makes us worse next year and sets the timeline backwards.
lose who?? are players there to win a flag or to get paid as much as possible...they want to be mercenaries, they can do that elsewhere...its not like Windy is getting his spot takenSo lose players because they are already at the club and pay anything to bring them in? Sounds idiotic.
Eddie's confidence was reassuring.Ross was still coy on Nas. Obviously doesn't want to come across as overconfident. It's a delicate situation. He's backed himself in and it paid off. Think we just need to pay up basically. It's our most important signing in 20 years.
Which feels very reasonable to get a key position player across. Now Whispy Watson walking back his Aleer $900k to $600k with incentives to hit $700k.
I've been a huge advocate for him since being drafted.
850 grand though is taking the piss.
He's 22, and turning into a solid role player...at the moment I would call him a C grade talent, reaching for B, that can occasionally hit a B+ a couple of times a year. You can't hang your hat on that... he's simply not consistent enough.
He is around the 600 grand mark at a push...maybe 7 if he was to sign for 4 years where he would be 26-27, and THEN be in for his pay day.
None of these guys are going to sign those 4 year contracts because of Tasmania coming on board, which is fair enough... that's business. However asking for another quarter of a million for your C grade talent level is taking the piss.
These guys are clearly not interested in being a "part of something special" it's bullshit. Rather it appears to be "I think I am special...pay me and I'll say whatever you want about "the vision."
All this without having proved anything yet.
F*CK them.
Trav, Garcia, Box are all there in the wings if Windy decides to go.
I tend to think we can "lowball" Windy to a point, if he and his manager are smart they would wait until the Nas situation is sorted. He’s B now. Fourth most disposals of any Saint and massive scope for improvement at 22. You can’t keep losing guys in that age bracket and drafting new ones. Aleer isn’t any good at VFL level and he’s getting star money. If we have to replace Windhager it costs us a FRDP and at least that wage. Hopefully he stays for less than offered outside the club.
This thread seems genuinely unhealthy for a lot of people's mental health.
Yeah people need to keep in mind we’re not only trying to outbid Carlton in regards to TDK, or GWS when it comes to Aleer, but also other suitors for both players.Which feels very reasonable to get a key position player across.
Hes certainly shown he can, will he do it consistently im not too sure. The question on Windhager remains: do you think he can elevate above the status of soldier?
I am a fan. I want him to stay. But the fact remains that you can always find soldiers. Let's say for argument's sake that the entire list is retained except for those we all believe are being delisted, including Ryan Byrnes.
Our guys who can play inside mid would be: Windhager, Macrae, Nas, Steele, Clark, Dow, Pou, Garcia, Boxshall. Others who could be included in a pinch in that group are Carroll, Wilson, and Sinclair. Some can play other positions but I'd struggle to see how they can all play in the one team.
Windy is very good, and is starting to really accumulate the ball. But if he is only a soldier, then I feel he can be replaced. He's not key position and he's not a game changer.
And I reckon that's probably the view internally in our list management team.
We do but also, lets not kid ourselves, weve gone all in on TDK, its stupid money. Hell be the highest paid player in the comp next year by 300k or 400k, were comitted to it now, again he represents something bigger than just TDK but players being a bit miffed about his payday while their own negotations are being penny pinched was an obviously forseeable side effect.Yeah people need to keep in mind we’re not only trying to outbid Carlton in regards to TDK, or GWS when it comes to Aleer, but also other suitors for both players.
So it’s $$$ to get players out of their somewhat comfortable homes with their mates, and more $$$ to fend off bigger and perhaps more immediately attractive clubs.
In that context $600k is fine.
Ross made clear that the club has put up a “wall” with regards to information on the Nas deal last nightRoss was still coy on Nas. Obviously doesn't want to come across as overconfident. It's a delicate situation. He's backed himself in and it paid off. Think we just need to pay up basically. It's our most important signing in 20 years.
That's completely fair. We wont now for sure until it actually happens.Respectfully (and im not specifically directing this at you) weve heard the word "confidence" from a few people now.
It means nothing. We were confident about Battle until we werent.
Like the last couple of years have not been mediocre? That and the whole direction of the club was heading into another mediocrity period.
