Great news.

The guys on Triple M said a few months ago that Nas would be signing up with us for 2 more years, I'm glad that they were right.

It would have been nice to have him sign up with us for longer but 2 more years is a lot better than no more years and if we are heading in the right direction and playing finals again in the next couple of years then hopefully he will sign up with us for longer.

If we’re not in a position to keep him (by being really competitive with a clear direction for winning flags) in 2 years then so be it. I don’t blame him for wanting to see something, the balls in our court now.

I'm absolutely stoked that we've got Nas for at least another couple of years, but very interested to see what implications that has for the rest of the list. We cannot have the two highest paid players in the comp on the books without collatoral damage, which probably means clearing out the likes of Marshall and Steele. I'm hoping we just pull the pin on the TDK offer and back Dodzilla to take over when Marshall is winding down in a few years.

Can guarantee that paying Nas 2mil a year was not in the plan when we made contact with TDK. Definitely didn't expect to be paying Max Hall a hefty contract either. With Nas onboard, we could probably keep Windy for 650k but apparently we only planned on paying him 450.

Exactly. Everyone seems in a rush to improve, and getting both TDK and Aleer in would certainly help make us better in the short term, but when you’ve already got Marshall, Keeler, Dodson and Heath on the books, and are now committing $2mil PA for Nas, the last thing I’d be doing right now is going out and spending up to $1.8mil PA over the next 7 years on yet another ruckman.

Especially when we have what looks to be a prodigious young ruck talent coming through who’s going to want TDK’s spot as soon as a year or two from now, and with the supremely talented Keeler just getting better and better as the year has gone on.

Those two blokes plus Ro (and hopefully Max) could be more than enough by 2027 in particular, and then we’ll have TDK’s $1.8mil to spend elsewhere.

And if we’re getting Aleer (who’s not very good, but will help us immediately), we then need to find a spot for Tauru, which could further squeeze out a Dodson or Keeler.

To me we have a super-promising list for the long term, and just need to back these tall young guys in, rather than putting big road-blocks on huge coin in their way, just to help us spike in 2026, rather than probably 2027.
