Rowe defending it, saying it builds resilience!
The precident has been set from previous homofobic slurs,on field.And when it happened on field.It become the AFL's responsability .Not the police or the court.
Rankine best scenario is 3,weeks.My guts saids 4,weeks.

[Cleary] The AFL’s investigation into Izak Rankine is expected to be finalised tomorrow. Parties close to discussions are preparing for Izak Rankine to receive a ban of at least four matches.

The previous bans for homophobic slur;

WEST Coast player Jack Graham has been suspended by the AFL for four matches for using a homophobic slur against an opponent. It said the incident was self-reported by Graham to his club, who reported it to the AFL on Friday morning, prompting an AFL integrity unit investigation. [13 July 2025]

Three AFL players were suspended for using homophobic slurs last season.

Gold Coast defender Wil Powell (five matches) and [May 2024 Powell made club officials aware of his comment during the match and offered his apology to the Brisbane Lions player during the game]
Port Adelaide forward Jeremy Finlayson (three) served bans over incidents in AFL matches. [April 2024 Finlayson, 28, apologised to the target of his slur post-match, and on Sunday made a formal apology, describing his words as "unacceptable". The League took his contrition into account when determining the penalty.]

St Kilda's Lance Collard served a six-match penalty for "unprompted and highly offensive" slurs towards two Williamstown players in a VFL game. [17 July 2024 Collard, 19, pleaded guilty to using the slurs during Sandringham's VFL clash with Williamstown on Saturday. He has since apologised to the Williamstown players involved, and to their club as a whole.]

Rankine didn't self report, and didn't apologise until after he was caught, so if AFL are consistent he gets 5 weeks, but who knows with Chook Lotto type interpretations by AFL.

Who gives a shit about what he said? It's not going to stop gay people from being gay, the gays that I know wouldn't even who Izak Rankine is and they'd probably wish his parents bought a book of names to spell correctly. They're going to go on living their lives the best they can.

The pearl clutching some people do is amazing, no wonder this club is flatter than a plate of piss, everyone is a victim.

[Sam Edmund] Football bosses told the last disposal rule more likely than unlikely for next year. Ruck rules changes coming and game length to be reduced. But perhaps the biggest message was that father-son and academy changes are coming in 2026.

I swear they're doing gigantic bumps of booger sugar at AFL house, how else can we explain all these changes every bloody year?

Game length IMO isn't the problem, it's the number of games, the season is too long and boring

What a pisser! I have a STRONG legal background! The AFL needs to smarten up or they will cease to exist after my class action THE BIGGEST class action in Australian history!
People who use language like 'strong legal background' always, ALWAYS are just nutjobs who have commenced 50 vexatious self-represented claims and lost them all. If they were a lawyer they would use the word lawyer, not 'strong legal background'.

5 weeks would be the minimum, but there is also the fact that these penalties have increased over time. Fin got 3 largely because he was the first cab off the rank. Rankine should be 6.
