So Florent the only one with potential to be a decent pick up...

For every success story you can come up with regarding this type of recruitment... I can come up with 10 failures...
Why would Florent be the only one with potential to be a decent pick up?

Every one of those players can run and they can kick the footy well. Those are traits we desperately lack in with our current group.

Just because they aren't superstars doesn't mean they can't improve our list by adding something different to the mix to balance it out.

Ross the Boss aiming at becoming 'Coach of the Year' in 2026.. with Premiership potential.
It's getting serious at the Aints ... especially if they land our TDK.
SOS still seems to have some sort of allergy to midfielders; lucky NWM is staying otherwise TDK would have no one to tap it to.

There it is... the jump to conclusion response...

Now, let's see if you can point out where I've said:

"we should only recruit superstars"

If anything... you should know by now that's not the direction I want us to go after...

One or two of those names you suggest would be fine... but not all 6 ....

We should be looking at sides that have a good system and a surplus of types that would add something to our list...

You're trying to turn too much around in one off season, not gonna happen... especially this off season.

Losing Motlop for Rosas...
Losing TDK for Chesser + McVee...
Losing JSOS for Butts...

Losing a 2026 2nd rounder (strong draft) for a player who is struggling to stay on the park and in his late 20's...

Yeah, nah mate... none of that improves us... it's basically shuffling deck chairs...

Seriously? All we have is “pressure forwards”.

What we need is a small forward that regularly kicks goals. Someone that scares the opposition as an offensive threat. Think Charlie Cameron, Papley, Watson, Kozzy…

Voss’s plan values tackles and defence over actually hitting the scoreboard. It’s infuriating when we have so many small forwards in the starting 23 that can’t score.

Moir, Fogarty, Motlop, Durdin = 1 goal between them from 65 inside 50's / 30 scoring shots. Yes they tackle, yes they pressure but this is NOT good enough.

Motlop shouldn't be included in that, he set others up to kick goals. He was unselfish, now you want to kick him for not kicking goals? This guy can't please anyone, if he'd taken the shots himself, he would have been criticised for not doing the team thing. He played a good game for us last week.

Also, I'm not sure that the week we kick 18 goals is the week to criticise anybody for their scoring output.

Let's kick off with Daisy

lol Genuinely bizarre how seemingly every current media commentator / journo have become the greatest cheer-leading Saints fans right now. All matey matey with Ross and SOS and Bassat they wouldn't dare be critical of a team that has gone from 13 wins in 23' to 11 wins in 24' to 9 wins in 25'. A media throng (& AFL HQ for that matter) that is genuinely intimidated by the St Kilda hierarchy.

I swear Fox Footy & SEN must have shares in the Saints. Have you ever seen such cringey obsession from all sections of the footy media wanting NAS to stay at St Kilda yet plead for every other player in the game to leave their team? (Look at Ralphy's piece on Silvagni yesterday as an example!)

Refer to post earlier this week re; my support of Motlop's game on Saturday. I'm talking in general here. Whether you think I'm being hyper critical or not, the fact is our small forwards don't score and/or execute anywhere near to the level they need to be if we are to be taken serious by opposition defenders.

Fogarty, Mots & Durdin all average LESS than a goal a game. Standards need to be raised. Pressure and tackling is a base fundamental when you're a small. Saturday aside (playing against hapless witches hats), our forward line has lacked any dynamic this year because we have no offensive threat when the ball hits the ground.

Fair enough, and I certainly agree on Fog and Durdin, fortunate for them that they are under contract for next year. It's time to move past them, they aren't helping us to improve.

All of Carlton's forwards are ae straight line runners - this is the fundamental problem - they are playing draughts in a chess world.

Durdin and Fogarty are both small midfielders with low skill and a lot of effort sometimes the effort produces something - mostly it is just effort - the only 'small' forward with any class is Williams and he is flaky - doesn't have the engine to play 4 quarter football. As impact players, much better pay-off will be Moir and HOK - maybe Smith too. But Carlton isnt going to challenge anyone until it acquires a small forward who can make a goal happen either side of the ground from a pocket. As for Motlop - everything has to go right for him to impact- he is a very low IQ footballer.

The lack of real small forward(s) has been a missing link camouflaged by Harry and Charlie centric focus for years now. Same for flankers- although Cottrell has come on - but he has been off field and unavailable for two years now.

These issues wont go away and are compounded by the need to find replacements forTDK ( good luck) and Sivagni - Silvagni much easier to replace. Pity about HOF -but he wass always going to be a risk given his undersized body housing an oversized heart.

Why are you assuming it's all 6? I'd imagine we're looking at a whole host of players, and we'll probably only end up bringing in 2, maybe 3 of them.

Anyone else think we should look at bringing in Kamdyn McIntosh?

Not so much for the player he is now but the bloke comes from a winning culture, it could be something we solely miss from this team.

Will come cheap as well, I wouldn't mind it

Saints are splashing out arent they. Cause its ok for them to splash out but Carlton need to shed players.

Wish we could steel Aleer from them.

Ah - had to dig back 6 posts in the chain to find the listed team - I wasn't that invested ;)

Carry on :)

Yeah fwiw, I agree with what you said, 2, possibly 3 players we bring in.

In an off season where we don't have much trade capital and let's be honest, there's really not much to go after...

I think people should temper their expectations a little on the list changes this year.

I think the TDK compo pick we take to the draft, the JSOS compo pick will help pay for Dean.

If we can get Florent for the Lions 2nd rounder and maybe bring in Rosas as a DFA, I think that's a decent outcome.

Not sure what people see in Florent.
We want to add players that can run and use the ball. Sydney is filled with players that can do both and Florent is one of them. He's no A-grader but at a cheap price could offer us at worst extra depth in defence and at best a nice upgrade to the best 23.

Yeah if we can, need to be aiming higher than florent. IMO

Depends on the timeline.

A top 10 pick, plus Harry Dean who is considered a top 10 pick himself - that's the "higher" you're looking for just on a longer timeline.

Florent isn't moving the needle himself, but the list is geared to play a certain way and we're going to need to take a few players of varying "levels" to help address the skill profile. Over the next few seasons, bring in some elite talent (Jagga, Dean, Top 10 kid, Walker), some role players with the right skills (Florent, Rosas, Ison etc.), and hopefully by 2027 we're able to actually keep up with other sides in the run-and-gun game the AFL is clearly trying to manufacture.
