1 of 2 things happened with Neale

1 the AFL has footage we don't that shows head contact
2 Neale has a niggle and we want him cherry ripe for finals

Of course it could also be a combo of both
And if he has a niggle and was thought to be innocent, 100% they would contest.

I have basis in the fact that there's not been a single frame of video showing Neale hit the head.

The club HAS NOT said he's guilty. Not once.

I get that could be insinuated by the club's 'no contest' but I don't think thats what their decision means at all.

I'm thinking they didn't want the distraction, or the risk to the soft cap, and weighed it up against our opponent this week and the opportunity to give Neale a rest before a demanding finals series.
That would not go down well with any player who thought he was innocent. Nothing to lose by contesting. On the given vision, we see the Swans player fall after the bump/knock.

If your assertion is correct, I'd be very pissed off. The soft cap...?, it's disrespecting Richmond... it's disrespecting an innocent player... going on about this because it's out of character by our club.

Yes, we see a Swans player fall over but not once have we seen him hit in the head.

The AFL is a business. Business is ruthless, and often very unfair. The way I see it the AFL wanted their man, the club weighed up the long term benefits v short term gain, and chose not to contest.

They've got bigger fish to fry.

Have you learnt nothing in your time on bigfooty.... We still bring up Hawkins suspensions over and over :tearsofjoy:
One of the many aspects of Toma that I have always loved is the fact that I am probably still way more burned about those suspensions than him. He just shrugged it all off and moved on, which is totally in keeping with the class act that he has always been.

We have been incredibly disciplined in relation to bumping this year. This I believe is our first suspension or very close to? I don’t think the club minds a reminder on eve of finals.

Unrelated but I have also noticed we are very careful recently at giving away head high tackle frees, particularly in forward 50. Almost not tackling when the opponent is going to ground.

I think Scott has become obsessed with these small details, and with a tight final series coming up, he is looking for any edge.

I absolutely agree with all of this. And the point about not conceding high tackles in dangerous parts of the ground has become very pronounced, I believe. The number of times I have to engage in a sharp intake of breath as one of our players jumps in and concedes a 'letter of the law' high tackle free kick inside D50 appears to have decreased markedly across this season.

Our usual mantra:
Win;
No injuries;
+ four points.

However!

Adelaide 141.0% play Norf (16th)

Geelong 140.7% play 17thmond

Both on Saturday

Do we cruise through the game, expecting Tuggers to do their best to win + lower our % + ladder position?

We should have an idea of the Norf -v- Crows’ result, just before, or during our game, to see how many points we need to win to grab #1 + minor premiership.

Is it worth the risk?

EDIT: A win will secure a home Qualifying Final at MCG 🙏🏻

Does 1st or 2nd really make any difference. Not from where I sit.

Top 2 maintain a degree of control over their own destiny if they keep winning. And a benefit to some extent if they lose in terms of avoiding travel

In that case I'm not selecting OH - genuinely not sure his form warrants selection

Polk has looked a much more likely option in the VFL if we're selecting from that group of forwards

Otherwise, I could see Bews, Kolodjashnij or even Knevitt come into the side and a shifting of magnets on the board
Agree, like this perspective, cats09

Ah so a classic Jon Ralph MRO hit piece on a cats player hits its mark, astonishing. I was wondering how this even got looked at given no one had mentioned it all, but alas our tiger loving friend Jon Ralph is at it again

So Neale suspended just like that, but Rankine who admitted liability ................................................

crickets GIF

This is a rating of our forward-line out of approx 130 forwards across the league. This is taking the whole year into account so doesn't include Jack Martin and was mentioned now Stengle is finding form too.

And this one is based on score assists. It was mentioned Danger had 15 score assists in his last 3 games alone. Miers has "dropped off" a bit since he's more in the midfield at the moment.

Who cares about Mihocek? Neale bumped a player, was cited for it. Geelong chose to accept the sanction.
Mihocek's incident looks like a pretty clear example of an inherently dangerous action that could have caused serious injury. For me, then, it's entirely relevant to raise the fact that his action apparently didn't warrant attention when Shannon's incident (a simple football act that went ever so slightly wrong) is seen to warrant suspension.

So surely it's just another request for some consistency in the MRO's assessment of acts that the AFL would like to see eliminated from the game.

How is it relevant to Neale though when they're separate charges?

If we were desperate for consistency we'd have challenged
We accepted their findings.

MRO discussion consistently goes on where one incident being highlighted is contrasted with another matter that is routinely passed over. This kind of discussion is nothing new.

We would have challenged if we thought we had a decent chance of beating the charge. Surely nobody here is suggesting that us challenging would have led to any breakthrough in consistency. Like everything else in the AFL world, the MRO is clearly nothing more than a law unto themselves.

This is an opinion that seems based on the presumption he's innocent.
He bumped a player, and the AFL don't like that. I think we were wise to take the week.
