Cornes is right about their list as much talent as anyone. They have a few holes, but good gameplan can protect those which they don't do.

Dogs are similar to Carlton. Their top end is very, very good but their bottom end is atrocious. Unfortunately for them, most of their bottom end is also in the backline.

Their midfield dominance, especially against poor sides, alleviates this concern and their firepower blows teams away. They really lucked out with Darcy who is a generational prospect.

Teams with better structures can contain their offence and exploit their defence. They have a 2-9 record against top 8 sides for this reason. And the two wins were against GWS, who are their bunnies and get slaughtered in the midfield every time they play.

It's why I'm surprised they're going so hard for Butters. Another top 10 prospect into the midfield is a scary prospect but it only adds to their strengths without addressing any of their weaknesses.

Dogs need not one but two kpds and a lockdown defender in the off season. Their list is lopsided as much as norf and eagles when it comes to having average defence line. Their two big frwds and talented midfield gives them good results but not enough to beat top eight sides.

Wildcard rounds are the absolute gold standard of daft seppo bullshit that should never ever find its way into our code. It makes sense in the MLB where you have over 30 sides and only having the 6 conference winners in it being out of kilter. Same with the NFL. In an 18 team comp if you finish 9th then **** off.

Absolutely. Reward those who managed to get it done, but the AFL seem hell bent on a bit of extra footy in the break.

This week has shown me that whatever the decision, the AFL will make the wrong one build on greed and self interest.

I am just honestly baffled we're already at the end of another season. Feels like a few weeks ago I was walking my crying little lads out of Adelaide Oval dodging the jeers and beers from the Port fans. Now we're already basically back here again. I still think we're at least a year off, but this club always surprises one way or another, so happy to ride the bumps with a grin. Will be good to have a week off to prepare for the stress of finals
