Glad to see Jordan Clark make the 44 squad. He's been a stellar pickup for Fremantle since crossing over from Geelong.

I was always annoyed he was never given the opportunity and subsequently disappointed he left.
Geelong could really do with another play-maker of his stature given Stewart may only have another few more years left.
I was the opposite. Annoyed he sooked it up when his line coach had issues with him.
Glad he's having a good career now but I don't miss him even slightly. No one person is bigger than the club.

Callum Wilkie not even being in the squad of 40 is an absolute war crime. Why am I surprised though. The AFL is a Michael Mouse competition.

Good to see Dunkley get some recognition. Plays a key role in shutting down the opposition's best stoppage player while getting plenty of the ball himself. His defensive work at the stoppage is what allows Neale and co to push forward.
I love what Dunkley brings to the table as a footballer, but he's nowhere near the team this year...

Kane Cornes being on the selection panel is probably half the reason both Wilkie & Xerri both missed. His hatred of both clubs is simply disturbing

They have both made it over the last few years he's not the ONLY selector.

Xerri was never ahead of the 3 rucks, and which defender named are you removing?

On Battle he hasn't played a bad game all year, been BOG like 5 times as well for a team that made finals. Also one of the main cogs of one of the best defences in the league.

Think he has been really underrated this year along with a few of his peers and he absolutely deserves to be in the squad.

On Wilkie I think he is stiff as well his season sits comfortably along side the key backs that made it: Taylor, Andrews, Battle, Keane, Collins.
Possibly playing in one of the weakest defences in the comp for the season has worked against him.
I think it works for him actually. Despite playing for a bottom side and losing Battle and Howard for support, he still managed to be rarely beaten, while having to deal with more frequent forward attacks by the opposition. Meanwhile the guys in the top sides, while still being very good, had much more support and structured team defence. Would they have done as well individually if they were to swap with Wilkie?

Xerri was better then Jackson this year as a ruckman

They have picked Jackson as a ruck/forward. Different role. the two rucks are ahead of Xerri.

Jackson is a unicorn so he comes in as a mid too. The selectors love picking mids for every position so that's how I assume Jackson got in the squad.
He is kind of a hard one to put anywhere because he plays forward mid and ruck he statistically is hard to judge for any of them

It's a strange one, if they are committed to picking a ruck/forward every year, Jackson is going to walk into this squad every year with his eye's closed but then it becomes hard to see how he ever gets into the team anywhere bar the bench.

Thilhorpe is there, so I. guess they have picked two. I don't hate the idea, it's a clear role in teams these days that FWD/ruck.

Ruck/Forward isn't a position though

You are either picked as a ruck or a forward

As a ruck Xerri is better as a forward he kicked 19 goals not that many

Thilhoprpe makes it as a forward regardless, just has the bonus of being able to ruck. Jackson the other way, good reason they are in finals and some other sides are not

Wasn't it Scarlett who was coaching at that time and a couple of players cracked the shits due to his holier-than-thou attitude?
Scarlett had a falling out with Scott apparently. Over tactics after the 21 PF.
Didn't want us going fast thinking it'd expose his backline... That change won the next flag. Clark was poor that year.

Good on him at Freo but no point pining over exes. Haven't missed or thought about him once since.

I assume they want someone who can chop out in the ruck unless they think that the 2 pure rucks are so good that they both demand selection. I think only 1 gets in and Thiltorpe has the chop out role. I don't think Jackson makes it, although statistically he's up there and has done some good things in big games.

Darcy and Thilthorpe both "play ruck" and both kicked 48 and 55 goals

Jackson "only" kicked 19 goals which for a ruckman is elite as English was the next best with 13 however his numbers thne as a ruckman don't stack up

it's an interesting call. i think it in a way a nod to more all round players, there's no doubt the overall leadership, toughness, tackling, ball getting package is valuable to the lions.
