I don't get your point?

They gave a draftee another year and then realized he had no future. How is that positive for the draftee?

I would have thought three years is more than enough info to know if someone has any upside
Drafted as a tall gangly 200cm forward/Ruck coming up behind Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay, Tom DeKoning and Brodie Kemp not a whole lot of opportunities to play AFL there. One things for sure there's still hope for an AFL career for a 21 year old athletic 201cm Harry Lemmey going forward whereas only a supreme optimist would say the same for a 30 year old 193cm Chris Burgess who has averaged 0.5 goals a game across his 44 game AFL career.

H/Sun article worth reading. Only 4 Crows were in top 100 highest earners and Rash not in top 10 for the quality 2021 class. JHF also on unders as per article which talks about players on unders asking for pay rise during contracted period if performance spikes . Reid did very well getting Soli and Rash locked away early but surprised they arent on at least 600k ish as per others on the group. Not sure how accurate this data is but clearly better info than most of us would have. and yes its clearly projecting 2026 salaries with players like NWM (locked in) and Aleer (that salary less locked in according to C4)

Adelaide Crows expecting to move into new Thebarton headquarters as soon as October next year
The now $105 million Thebarton Oval redevelopment is ahead of schedule and the Crows look set to move into their new home earlier than expected. See the latest pictures.

Matt Turner

Adelaide is expecting to move to into its new headquarters as soon as October next year as the much-anticipated project runs almost two months ahead of schedule. But the Crows’ training and administration base at Thebarton was now expected to cost close to $105m, a slight increase from the $100m it was estimated at earlier this year.

Adelaide chairman John Olsen said the timing of the move from West Lakes would avoid interruptions to the team’s preparations for the 2027 campaign.“It’s running seven to eight weeks ahead of schedule, which is good,” Olsen told this masthead. “That means we’ll be able to move in October or November next year.

“One of the things that worried me about the February, March ‘27 (completion) is going from the construction zone at West Lakes and then shifting into a new place when everyone has got to be focused on getting ready for the season.”

Article mentions no team in history has ever gone from 15th to Minor Premiers.

My thoughts here - The core principle from Jim Collins' book "Good to Great" is: "First Who, Then What" and it states that good-to-great leaders first get the right people on the bus and in the right seats before they figure out where to drive the bus. Olsen, Silvers, Nicks (and competent assistants), Burgess (Josh Manuel) and later Balme and Gallagher - arguably our best quality off field talent we have ever developed. Even Kelly - who I had doubts on - has performed well in recent years after the initial Brad Crouch stuff up

How Adelaide Crows chairman and former SA Premier John Olsen, ex-Hawthorn administrator Tim Silvers helped revive club
In 1997, as SA premier, John Olsen witnessed what a Crows flag did for the state. Now, almost three decades later, he’s trying to rekindle that magic from the inside. He opens up on the club’s rise.

Silvers was an immediate contrast from Canberra-raised ex-Super Rugby club boss Fagan. Softly spoken and humble, rather than polished and confident, Silvers was an AFL tragic with 17 years experience at Hawthorn, rising from payroll manager to chief operating officer with a stint as the Hawks’ acting CEO. Adelaide chose him as the ideal candidate to lead a football-first strategic plan after the club dabbled in such non-commercial ventures as eSports and the Giants’ baseball team. “Where we are now really started with the change of CEO,” Olsen says. “We were able to bring someone in who’d worked for 17 years at Hawthorn, had invested in AFL football, had networks in the industry and had a clear understanding of the industry, and respect in the industry. “He’s done an outstanding job and grown in the role. “Out of that came total alignment between chair, CEO and coach on the plan and direction we were going to take, which was supported unanimously by the board.”

Olsen says the club was not close to dumping Nicks. “There was enormous external noise and it got personal on individuals,” he says. “Listening to it, making a value judgment about it, but being reassured internally about the path we were on, I never lost confidence. “And neither did the board about Nicksy’s plan and the direction. “Some other clubs would have axed their coach in that situation, no doubt. “We had confidence because of the character Nicksy is, connection he had with the players and coaching group. “Our best games when we had our best squad was good enough. “Consistency was what we were missing.”

Olsen says Nicks never showed that he was worried.

I didn’t watch any of the SANFL but looking at the stats, looks like the usual suspects getting the footy except Murphy - can someone tell me please that he was playing like a guy who’s been told he doesn’t have a contract next year? Playing disinterested?

I don’t think they know who is on what. The AFL release the number of players from each club in the contract bands. Everything is a guess from there. They don’t know front or backloaded contracts , it’s pure surmising.

Brisbane already have options wanting to come to them, would be nice to have some early trade options wanting to come out n say they want to join. Def only want quality over quantity but lions could add a key position player in 3 areas. Doedee should move on they are stacked with backs. Hopefully Butts stays for us otherwise we will need to cover him to.

Butts is contacted so I can’t see us letting him go anywhere unless we got a heavily favoured deal . Even if he’s not in best 22 we need his depth and genuine pressure on the best 22

The strongest rumours players may he is Ah chee. Hes not coming out and announcing it while Bris are playing

Brisbane signed Doedee 2027, we received a end of first round compensation pick, so you imagine the money is around $700k - Can't see him moving on before the contract is over.

Bringing up Oliver’s name here 12 months ago had people getting out the pitchforks.

How quickly things change.

I’m still very skeptical of it. But I think it depends on how much of his salary we take on. You can make out like a bandit in these scenarios but you can also get ****ed over pretty bad.

Just look at Grundy, from what I’ve heard that Swans are only on the hook for his match payments and the Pies and Dees are the ones paying his salary.

Very big article in the Newscorp papers re the 3 musketeers Rachele, Soligo and Nankervis living arrangements etc and regular house guest Riley Thilthorpe. Safe to say all should be career Crows you would think. Just a small sample below

Inside Josh Rachele, Jake Soligo and Luke Nankervis’ sharehouse, social media lives and pranks

Imagine ‘neat-freak’ Josh Rachele is your landlord. Well, it’s reality for Jake Soligo and Luke Nankervis. But it’s under this roof that an ‘unreal’ bond has been formed at the Crows.

TikTok dance trends, fear-inducing pranks and knowing Riley Thilthorpe could walk through the front door at any second.
There is rarely a dull moment with Josh Rachele, Jake Soligo and Luke Nankervis all under the same roof.

The trio moved in together shortly after they arrived in Adelaide in the 2021 draft – and anyone who follows them on social media has been given a behind the scenes look inside one of Adelaide’s footy fun house.

But the power dynamic under the Adelaide roof has changed. Rachele is now the landlord for Soligo and Nankervis.
“He is a little bit of a neat-freak but it is fair enough because he has a beautiful house,” Soligo said.

“We have to treat it with respect.
“That was hilarious, we do play a few pranks here and there,” Soligo said.

“Usually we just turn off each other’s power and scare each other. That’s probably the biggest one.

“Dan (Curtin), Hugh Bond and Zac Taylor live together so we like to pass by there when we are getting our groceries (and get them).”

The close bonds helped Victorians Soligo and Rachele sign at West Lakes until the end of the 2029 season, while Nankervis is signed on to the end of 2027.
“It definitely helps with the move and with staying here and that’s why I made a decision about I think it was last year to sign on until 2029,” Soligo said.

“It was just because of the brotherhood you have and you create at this club.

“We have got a young core group that coming through together and we’re all super close and we’re all close with the older boys as well, it’s a good place to be.

“Riley Thilthorpe comes over pretty much every day and he doesn’t seem to do a lot of work, so we might have to start getting him to pay a bit of rent.”

But did they ever think they’d get to this point?

It’s certainly a long way from the awkward silences shared by the three and Taylor on the 10-hour trip in a mini-van from Melbourne to Adelaide nearly four-years-ago.

“I think we all sort of share the same values as people, as footy players as well,” Soligo said.

“We are always in here trying to get better and I think that’s the biggest thing we all love about each other is we’re just trying to get better as people.

“We can pull each other up and say something’s not right, it’s a good friendship to have.”

Crows recruiting boss Hamish Ogilvie was at the wheel, ferrying the four draftees who at the best barely knew each other.

Saw this as well...

Despite all of the valid criticism we have given the club in recent years (and yes, it was warranted when you are finishing bottom 4 etc) - The salary cap management has been first class.

Even with NWM we didn't go crazy silly offering Poort levels of $2m plus.

With all of our guns locked away on good but not over paid deals (TT almost robbery :$) , we should be primed to keep attracting good players and ready to splurge on a gun FA mid when the times right.
