That's an opinion alright. Reads fairly definitive. Butters is a free agent next year. What will the compo be?
It would be nice if posters weren't so rude and dismissive when reading posts they don't agree with. Silly season hasn't started yet, but it's going to be a long one if people don't start exercising some diplomacy.
Need to let go of this fantasy of getting Butters as well...
He will take a godfather contract to lure over... $2M+ for like 9 years... So that free space from losing Charlie is immediately overfilled.
You don't chase one of the biggest fish in the game when you're not a finals side. Face it, we are years away from contending, the current crop took us as far as they could in 23 and now with decline setting in to most of them, we are not rising back up any time soon.
Also, no way Port Adelaide are taking pick #11 + Swans F1 + Moir for Butters. Pick 11 in a shit draft and with Charlie at the Swans the F1 could be 10+ as well. Moir just signed on this year too, the ramifications of putting a player who is happy with the club up for trade could be detrimental.
As for the Swans, they are going to have to pony up. The two most realistic outcomes imo are:
1. Trade Warner to WCE for either pick #2 or their F1
2. Trade pick #11 + McDonald for WCE pick #2
Pick #2 or WCE F1 + Swans F1 for Charlie would be a pretty good result for us. In fact, two F1 picks in addition to our own for next year's draft would be amazing.
I see. That’s great for us then.Don't think so - pretty sure the rule is "once a DFA always a DFA when out of contract".
And our list will never get better if we keep getting B grade talent like Flanders, butters will not take 2 million he wants to get home to Victoria for family reasons and I think will go to which ever club can seriously make it happenSaid it the other day, id rather bring in Flanders than Butters. He'll take a NWM $2 mill+ offer to move.

If only there was sone sort of recent history example where one of the game's best players changes clubs...What was dismissive? Forgive me for saying that luring one of the comp's best players is a fantasy... but it is...
I'm probably in the minority, but I don't really rate Flanders that highly. No doubt he'd be in our starting line up, but for mine he's a good ordinary player.Said it the other day, id rather bring in Flanders than Butters. He'll take a NWM $2 mill+ offer to move.

Port have the cash to make a hefty contract to ZB to remain (offer to NWM was stacked), and that will make Zac think about his move with financials considered, with clubs having to dip into their pockets to make it more inviting. HFC, ESS will have plenty of coin to make it attractive and then get to work on the trade deal with PTA certainly matching. And our list will never get better if we keep getting B grade talent like Flanders, butters will not take 2 million he wants to get home to Victoria for family reasons and I think will go to which ever club can seriously make it happen
Hawks going hard for petraca by all reports. It's out of the dogs and geelong butters is keen on apprently, if we land hinkly and with Davis coming across and our cap space and potentially having 2 first rounders with out trading curnow i don't see why he wouldn't be keen to come across a year earlier if we can make it happenPort have the cash to make a hefty contract to ZB to remain (offer to NWM was stacked), and that will make Zac think about his move with financials considered, with clubs having to dip into their pockets to make it more inviting. A pretty average Ruck just got $1.8 mil. His new teammate just got $2 mil. Even bang average AFL player JSOS is getting way overpaid. These things change the dynamic of what players get paid. And our list will never get better if we keep getting B grade talent like Flanders, butters will not take 2 million he wants to get home to Victoria for family reasons and I think will go to which ever club can seriously make it happen

And what was "so rude"??
As for compo, do you see a situation where Port aren't going to match? Butters is their marquee player in the middle of his prime. Whoever wants him will be coughing up. There's no way they're letting him walk for band 1 compo, it would be like us not matching for peak Cripps...
I dunno they have alot of good young players that clubs are going to start coming for will have to start putting aside some for thatHawks also have plenty up their sleeve.
Dare say, we could call it a war chest…!
And that's all from one club that is extremely mediocre that has nothing to offer players besides money, this is not the normalA pretty average Ruck just got $1.8 mil. They do but paying unders.I dunno they have alot of good young players that clubs are going to start coming for will have to start putting aside some for that
Players will see this and equate to their own circumstances. And that's all from one club that is extremely mediocre that has nothing to offer players besides money, this is not the normal
You either want to win a flag or get paid 2 million dollars i don't think with what the salary cap is at the moment you can do bothPlayers will see this and equate to their own circumstances.
It won’t add up and the managers will be on the phone. Nice little cut for them too.
The S/C needlessly went up too much.
The market then becomes set.You either want to win a flag or get paid 2 million dollars i don't think with what the salary cap is at the moment you can do both
Needs a footballing injectionApparently we are looking. Pace injection is my guess.
Yep, always interested in who'll potentially be pulling on the navy blue...you only tend to get excited if it a big name.Is anyone actually excited to who we are linked to?
I was thinking the same that Jed Walter would have to be part of the trade as I think he will be a starWould a hypothetical trade like this work.
Charlie to suns for:
Walter/Flanders and their first round pick?
I assume us stopping his clause trigger also gives us the option to re-contract him at a more reasonable rate if we decide we need him as depth.Yeh I agree with a lot of this. Out of that list above I'd be prioritising Motlop, Young, Charleson and Evans. The others would be based on list spots. However, McGovern leaving does leave a bit of a need for 1-2 tall defenders to come in. Especially, with Jack out and HOF with the ACL.
