Gettable reporting a few Carlton related things:
  • JSOS leaning towards Saints on a deal worth upwards of 4M over 5 years. Cal has it at 800K-850K/year. Thinks we would get Band 2 compensation (end of first round pick) rather than Band 1.
  • Carlton have shown interested in Rosas as well as a number of other clubs but Richmond and Sydney lead the race.
  • Nothing really new on Curnow but Cal thinks with 6 weeks left to trade deadline plenty can happen and Carlton could still relent on their position. Did also say that Carlton would need to look like winners if they were to trade him.
  • Reeves looking like extending at Hawks but has Reidy coming to Carlton.
  • Nothing concrete but Cal raised the possibility of us potentially making a play for Treloar
  • Cal intrigued by Motlop situation who remains un-signed. Contract talks had been going on for a bit but still no decision on his future.
  • Carlton have also shown interest in Flanders as well as a few other clubs but they aren't sure if he will stay or leave and also what club he would go to if he left.
so a summary of this thread?

I agree with this . Not necessarily anything to do with Charlie and keeping him, more to do with Ed himself and the bloke that he is.

Ed is such a genuine person, a great character to have around the club, and was first class in his approach to training and standards as a player. If he came back, these are the traits I would love for our players to take on.
Just not skills…

I understand that, but it's the extent he's manager is going to, to make it happen he's a leader of the football club it should be happening with out all this media circus
It’s annoying for sure.

His manager playing the game, feeding the media.

AFL media is as rabid as it gets.

For example - piles pressure on players/coaches & then bangs on about mental health of players being sacrosanct.

They’re vultures.

The players want the money. It's got to come from somewhere.
They have to take responsibility for the contracts they sign.

Where else in the world do you get to back out of a contract in the middle of its tenure because you don’t like it anymore?

Managers create the problem.

Clubs have to stick fat.

We pad out our team with better players. All decent kicks maybe bar Will Wayward (but a goal kicker)
HBF Roberts
W McInerney (Campbell?)
HFF Hayward (Campbell?)
You don’t trade stars out for a bunch of role players. You want something top tier coming back your way when parting with a player of Charlie’s calibre. Either an A-grader or multiple first round picks. None of those guys you mentioned would be worth first round picks on the open market

What would Port get if they lost him to FA next year for compo?

Probably a pick around 3 or 4? They will be bottom 4-6, you'd think.
I’d say the minimum to get him across from a draft/pick scenario would be the TDK AND Jsos pick plus a future first.

Steak knives options would be Durdin/Binns/Gov/Boyd types.

To be clear, this is more what I meant...through him. ( sorry I could have said it better)You've mentioned you are in a facebook group with a few connections...made clear you aren't an ITK but I notice a change in what Wick thinks, to pretty definitive statements around a lot of issues. I wanted to make clear, as some take this as gospel, or use this to buffer their already held views on why they think the club is where it is.
From my pov, it's resulted in even more posters feeling justified to throw insults at our players.

As I said - I find it distasteful at best.

First, I respect and value your opinion more than almost anyone on here

If my posts are having a negative impact on others on this forum then I apologize. It's never been my intention. I'm disheartened to read that this may be the case

If my views - my opinion only - are that bad and my language that definitive then I shouldn't be posting. I'll take my leave

All the best

I get your point but Hayward is as good as any mid-sized forward in the competition. He is an A-grader for his position. Campbell is imo a top two kick in the AFL and can be used back, wing or forward effectively. McInerney and Roberts would give us flankers at either end that can use the ball really well. Curnow is a star but Carlton would be a better team in 2026 and future years with those four over Curnow imo.

In terms of the picks I think Hayward would definitely be worth a very good first round pick OR a pick in the teens and something else. Campbell a late first/early second. McInerney probably the same. Roberts closer to a 2nd.

In saying that as I said above I don't think the Swans would ever do a deal like that and we would be taking on way too much salary for just Curnow going out.

Definitely not mate. Your posts are great - heaps of detail and always based on a good knowledge base.

You are wildly undervaluing those Sydney players imo. They are all way better and suit needs more than the types Carey brought up
Nah, other way around. You dont trade out a top 5 key forward for hayward and 3 roles players. Campbell's kicking is elite but has shown nothing to justify a late first. Crazy chat. Roberts and McInerney are genuine role players found at a lot of clubs. Certainly not core pieces in a trade for Curnow.

Let's extend that to all people connected with our club; not just players.

I 100% get what you are saying. But I stand by my comment that if it was as simple as those four coming in and Curnow going out Carlton would be a better team in 26' and in future years as well.

And on their values at the draft a player like Campbell would be a late first/early second round pick - especially in a weaker draft like this year. We would be asking for the same thing if we had a player like that on the list.
