2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

If you have a rule stating what you have written please share. Thank you.
8.8 Over Age Father/Sons

If an eligible Father/Son Player is not included on a Club’s Primary List or Rookie List after attaining draft eligibility age, a Club may retain that Player as an eligible Father/Son Player in the Football Year immediately following the year they attain draft eligibility age, provided the Club complies with Rule 8.4 and the Player has previously nominated for the National Draft but has not been selected in any Draft.

Looks like the Caminiti in defense days are over. Should be good for his development but we need him forward. Can’t have just Sharman up there with cameos from Mason Wood who all of a sudden can’t kick straight and occasionally Keeler.

I’m thinking Aleer, Silvagni and Wilkie as the tall defenders with Tauru filling in for injury and giving him time to develop. Silvagni and Wilkie can use the ball on the way out which will make a massive difference back there.

King, Caminiti and Sharman up forward is much better. Even if only two are available that’s a big improvement on this season.
A fit JSOS is a walk up start in my opinion, but I think Tauru will push Aleer for selection in the best 23. He plays with the same level of athleticism but much more aggressive in the contest. Neither are great disposers of the ball. I really hope Tauru is inspired to get himself in top top shape and work hard on his kicking.

I’ve considered this.

But the injuries have been really unlucky and not a great deal due to poor management.

Pou - stress fracture in his femur. That’s unlucky. Calf’s have been placed on the player saying he is okay and putting his hand up for selection
King - knee was dealt with and missed by multiple specialists.
Howard - injured in games that he managed to play out.
Marshall - slipped down a hill wasn’t it?

I’d almost invest in a priest and bless the ****ing place or get the ghost busters to perform some form of exorcism
Fair points. No team is going to go injury free and we were actually not too bad this year, it just happened to be the case that the few injuries we did get were to our most important players.

My concern stems from certain strange decisions which appear to be made in the course of rehab. Phillipou and Henry in particular - injuries during warm ups, coming back clearly underdone and not ready. I would prefer to see a much more patient and principled approah to rehab that includes proper conditioning in the VFL so that by the time the player is selected for the senior side they are primed and ready to go (of course they might not be in good form, but they should be fit). That is the approach we took with Dow, but not so much with Phillipou and Henry.

We don't know that they didn't do that. Have a look at Richmond with Lalor. They gave him an extra week off when he was coming back from his hamstring and he still did it again in the first minute of his first game back.

Buy into RTBs method. Commit to hard work, 100% effort.

We get this or better for an entire season.

Enjoy.

(Also, notice how many big players JSoS plays on in these clips? Pushes Xerri around, playing on Cameron)

His kicking is better than Marshall
And his tap outs to advantage is what we need.
His next 200 games should be better than his last 100.

Stocker Howard Wilkie
Sinclair Silvagni Clark
Hill NWM Wilson
Hall Sharman Butler
Higgins King Marshall
De Koning Steele Windhager
Travaglia Macrae Owens Phillipou Garcia
That team looks pretty strong particulaly with more height both ends compared with this year. Could easily replace Travaglia with any of Boxshall, Wood, Tauru or Hastie as well.

Owens is strangely accurate when kicking for goal in open play and he is actually quite effective as a oversized crumber. His set shot snaps are also good enough. ּBut it is absolutely essential that he fixes his set shot drop punts and should make that his number one priority over the off-season.

It's a tough one but he has too many strengths to leave out of the side I think. He is as strong as a bull and is probably the least likely forward to be outmarked while grappling with a defender — King and Sharman are run and jump players. He also draws so many free kicks because defenders can't handle him, and he is a good runner and gets up and down the wings.

In a perfect world, Mitch's role is to be the forward who engages the defenders in the pack which allows King/Sharman/Keeler/Ryan to come across for the mark.
In his draft year, pretty sure he was playing on a wing. Definately more of a contested player now though.
Maybe they gotta rotate him & Hall into the midfield in bursts more.
Or maybe he can just be an impact player off the bench.
Think he'll be fighting for a spot in the team 23 now.
Which is not a bad thing.

I don't think I've seen Barrat mentioned once in our defensive depth discussions. Let's not write this kid off, despite looking like a 35 year old, he's still a teenager!
Absolutely not written off but needs to learn his craft and show some form in the VFL. So far he has been battling against VFL forwards and being beaten pretty regularly at that level.

Unpopular opinion but I think Caminiti can genuinely be a best 23 forward

One of the best contested marks at the club and always at least neutralises contests without conceding intercept marks, but the one problem was always him spoiling his own teammates

After playing in defence for a full season on the competition's best forwards and experiencing the ongoings of 17 other different forward structures and how they setup, it would've taught him endless nuances about forward craft

Have high hopes for Hammer. 22 in December - still only just getting started

Father/son eligibility only applies for your draft year and the one immediately after so I don't think we can pre-list Voss as a F/S any

I do not rate Caminiti at all. We really need to target a full back if we can.
The man is neither a backman nor a forward; the only reason he is playing AFL is due to his height.
In fact, im not sure he is a footballer
Football, as the name states, requires the player to kick the ball. This man just does not have the ability.
Are you available?

Ross when interviewed about NAS signing singled out Mitch and Pou as the other high end young talents. Think he will be firmly in the team wherever that may be.

Second year ever playing as a defender and more often than not forced to take on the number 1 forward. Think we should cut him some slack.

He’s pretty similar to Cam Rayner in how he plays. Cam also had a quiet stretch before he figured out how to impact games.

Ross likes to discreetly throw players names in when answering questions. He threw Mitch into an answer when talking about elite players a few weeks ago. So I think Ross has high hopes for him still.

I totally agree with this. He started the Melb game off well getting a goal in first few minutes. Then had to go back due to leaking goals.

Playing in a very weak side in Sandy.
And didn't have much help around him.
People saying he got beaten because it was his fault is BS.
Coaches are happy with his progress
And he turns 19y.o at the end of November
