Let’s hope that this is actually something that has been a focus weeks ago, rather than just something we are doing now that JSOS is unavailable.

If it’s the latter, it will fail.

I would suspect it’s been on the table for quite a while but Wilkie’s manager is going public now that Jock Salami is being paid the same amount for an extra 3 years.

Testing whether the Saints will come to the table on an improved contract before trade week.

I know everyone thinks Wilkie is worth a lot more than I do. I just cannot fathom how we get pick 17 for Bailey Smith at 23 and we should give up lot more for a 30 yo defender. I know one was OOC and the other in, but makes no sense to me. If we need to give up what posters are suggesting I hope the eal does not get done.

We're the Bulldogs and Geelong is Geelong. Rules are different.

They're actually paying JSoS $150k (roughly) extra per year.

Contracted until 2027. New deal after that when most of our Hughes to aid players are OOC in 2027 would sort it.

It’s the Curnow example.

A Club wants another clubs gun player.

If they won’t trade him for a great return.

Why do you think we are trading one of the best key backs in the league for magic beans picks and Buku Khamis?

It’s not me being an arrogant opposition supporter either. It’s a very fair and valid point.
Whos this best key back you’re targeting?

I assume like most of us that nothing will eventuate from this.

But my god imagine the absolute meltdown from Pooper Scooper Grech
Given I (and 87% of the Australian population) are banned imagination will have to suffice.

Has a supporter ever truly embodied a club, ever?

He embodies a good chunk of their fan base as well it seems

Never seen a side so happy to be shit and remain shit and spend a lot of money to be shit

Just depends on WIkies current contract if he is on round 700,000 and we are offering 1.1m and 4 years, they would not room in their cap after all th R other big spends. So is he happy to accept less if not he goes.

It only doesn't make sense when you choose to brush over the contractual status like it's a minor detail, it's a massive difference between the two scenarios.

The price paid is a reflection on the circumstances around the transaction, not the player's worth.

Thatd be exactly the play. He is happy at St.K, you'd think if he was to leave it would have to be the extra money/years plus better chances of success.
Saints likely offer him the captaincy and try to sell him on the new recruits making a difference.

Correct so we do not getinvloved in deals that are skewed against us if we can help it.

I Wilkie a good player?

Hard to get a gauge on players from teams you absolutely whallop every time you play them.

I'd never watch a neutral Saints game when they aren't playing finals.

Very good

Trying to think of a good Dogs player comparison. Maybe Morris, a little undersized but plays on the key forwards. Great leadership, will be their captain next year. Can only see this as a “I want a pay rise” leak to the media

Sure, let's look at other ways we can attract good players
  • Sustained on-field success?
  • Significant supporter base?
  • Marquee MCG games?
  • Rich football history?
We don't exactly have players banging down the door to play at the Dogs do we?

Wilkie is one of the best FBs in the competition, can play tall, medium or short.
I think our chances are slim but I like the big thinking.
