From the Age this morning. Of course, does anyone else remember when we signed Craig Starcevich two years ago when HE had the best reputation in the game?...

ST KILDA has turned to David Misson, the Sydney conditioning coach with the best reputation in the game, to solve its long-standing injury problems.
Misson, Sydney's elite performance manager for seven seasons, is expected to sign with the Saints today after considering an offer from Carlton.
Misson worked with St Kilda coach Ross Lyon in Sydney when Lyon was an assistant to Paul Roos and in his time established an injury management and prevention record with the Swans that was unparalleled. The club used a league-low number 32 players in its 2005 premiership campaign and just 31 players in 2006.
The Swans have not used more than 33 players in any of Roos' first four full seasons as coach.
It is understood that St Kilda's football operations manager, Ken Sheldon, received confirmation last night of Misson's decision to join the Saints, who began suffering an unexplained and extraordinary number of soft-tissue injuries as far back as 2002.

Re: Saints sing Sydney conditioning coach

how does the song "sydney conditioning coach" go? I haven't heard it before.. but if the saints are singing it, it must be a ripper.. ;)

Re: Saints sing Sydney conditioning coach

You w***ers. First you steal our midfield coach and now our conditioning coach. Do you want to take anyone else while your at it :thumbsd:
you can stop pretending now, no finals for Sydney so its ok to jump off the bandwagon.

Oh ok, and how many finals did St Kilda play this year?

Moving on, that is a great signing for you guys, in order to win the premiership you need to have a good run with injuries, it's a fact of footy these days. Anyone that can help minimilise them is a massive asset, and this guy is one of if not THE best in the business, pretty sure he worked/works with the Aussie cricket teams aswell. Sad to lose him.

Should we mention to a certain St Kilda "fan" on this blog that one of the main reasons Mission came to us and not Carlton was because he was friends with our NEW coach who he knew back in Sydney? Don't think GT would've got him... of course, the boys would probably be off to Antartica or somewhere in a week or so, which'd be something...

Fehring, Starcevich was signed at the beginning of '06, and yes, he had a good reputation.

But he was never in the same league as Misson, who has worked with the Australian Cricket Team and overseas in a similar capacity.

Starcevich left the club for personal reasons in the middle of a pre-season, and this was largely the cause of our terrible injuries in the first half of the year.

A bad mistake by the Butterss board to allow CS to leave at a crucial time.

A great decision by the Butterss board to appoint David Misson.

Perhaps you'd like to read the article where it says that his wife was appointed Principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar and he had to move.

Either way, we welcome opposition supporters who add something to this board with positive discussion. You don't.

Re: Saints sing Sydney conditioning coach

Starcevich must of damaged his reputation. Did nothing that great for the saints, the injury toll stayed very similar. Then he left half way through our pre-season, not exactly a fantastic effort. If you sign a contract, you should at least see it through to the end of the year. Leaving us stranded with no fitness proffessional, wasn't exactly ideal for us.

Very looking forward to seeing how the new fitness guy goes. Swan supporters should be dissapointed, he was always going to move to Melbourne, as his wife landed a job down here.

While I consider this good news based on the success he had in Sydney, one should not expect miracles - there are a number of other issues (lack of modern training and recovery facilities / the apparently 'difficult' ground of the Telstra Dome / not sure about the standard of medical facilities and co-operation with specialists / etc).

But it is an important first step and I certainly hope that it will pay off !

This is great news. I would just like one year without major injuries to see what this group of players can achieve. This seems to be a step in the right direction.
