Welcome to St Kilda Ison. Silvagni can explain to the board why he drafted a kid projected in the 20s as a top 10 pick.

The almighty Stephen Silvagni doesn’t have to do any explaining.

How he keeps getting list manager roles in the AFL with his track record is one of life’s great mysteries.

Then again, I guess it who you know.
SOS lobbied hard for the Carlton role and got it.

He’s best mates with Ross & Graeme Allen…you know what happens next.

So it sounds like we've offered Motlop and McGovern deals which they've accepted pending significant interest from other clubs?

I'd personally sign them both as we do need depth.
What if better 1st players are found, or step up from underneath and we get better depth players to replace them (as depth).

Prefer both not to be selected with the holes in their game , so best to be moving on, if we can wrangle good deals.

His only mates ? Remember talking to one of his ex premiership team mates who said he wasn't very likeable by others

If I'm WC, I'm not giving up pick 2 for Motlop + 10 + 21.

I think we burnt Owies more than anything by not giving him a new contract. The guy is a better player than what he's shown this year, I think he's just not motivated and there for a paycheck unfortunately.
West Coast need to become more competitive adding more early picks is not going to help them next year, Motlop would be attractive for them.

I've seen a couple of posts displeased with the notion of Carlton trading our two compo picks for West Coast's Pick 2 again.

We will lose the TDK compo pick anyway due to a bid on Harry Dean coming early. Isn't it a no brainer to get ahead of it and use the pick? We can use it in the draft, but also use it to trade for an established player.

The only issue is we will need more points for Dean so other player trades will need to happen.

I think the 2 pick is bait for a trade…

It will happen. I'm just questioning if it can happen over one off season.

Losing at 3 first 18 players is hard to cover. Losing the depth as well it more difficult.

I like that we are keeping our options open.

Yeah probably... but he's not moving the needle for a pick 2 trade, our compo picks are just nowhere near early enough to warrant a swap for pick 2.
Pretty similar trade to last year so l would not discount a trade of a similar type, Austin may trade with another team to bring 9 or 10 down to 6 if he likes some one.

They thought Sam Petrevski Seton was going to be a PoD for them, and it didn't work out. Poor west coast
Media scrutiny and they copped it from there fans

Unless pick 2 can be used to bring in a Logan McDonald type of player and gain an another first round they would do it.

Sydney willl cop it if they include Warner gulden or heeney in a trade for Curnow

Last year we gave 12+ 14 + Owies for 3. And the Eagles only really bit because they needed 14 for Baker.

Very different to 10 + 21 + Motlop for 2.

Look if that happens, I'll be very happy. But it won't.

Would rather do a deal that involves Gold Coast, and we only give up one pick and get 2 back from GC (obviously would involve player movement).

But I would rather us trying to take two in the top 20 alongside Dean and Ison.

Does 2025 Charlie even improve the GC side from last night?
How is trading out one or two of their young guns going to better their list?
They were good and will get better…
Sydney makes more sense
Even Geelong if they’re preparing for life without Jezza.
I don’t know but having King at full forward close to goal and Charlie roaming up the field around the 50m line would give them a potent combination.

Pressure would be off Charlie to be the main goal scorer and free him up to be more attacking.

You mean kind of like a Harry McKay/Charlie Curnow combination, if we were smart enough to do it. 🤔

A no brainer as in not at all thought through.

We don’t have the currency to do a trade like that, and get Dean, and other players that we need.
It ignores the context of 3 other draft years:
24 we traded big to get #3 Jagga, including gutting our 25 draft hand.
26 we need lots of points for Cody
27 picks are severely diminished in value because Tassie.
AND the change in DVI for this year

It is very expensive to move up the draft (as we saw last year, when we actually got a relative bargain). You can’t continuously pay those prices.

The smart move is to target player/s with the TDK compo, and get points back.

3 x B22 being TDK (Pitto), JSOS (?) and #3 being….Charlie?

Don’t think Mots & MM are in B22 calculations. MM as a forward maybe but concerns about how he goes about his football (conditional) reason for his exclusion - certainly has had his opportunities to impress.
