If the club can sell him why he's a good fit it wont matter
Sure.

He was also a stkilda NGA who we wanted but weren’t allowed to draft due to rules and we still want him now.

I’d imagine if he gets put on the table. He is coming to us as a local Beaumaris boy as opposed to heading to Essendon.

There are zero reports linking him to you. There are plenty linking us including Caroline Wilson yesterday 6/9 in the age.

If it aint, the noise has been loud the past week or two and we certainly havnt heard anything from Zac himself

So he needs to quell the speculation and noise. It cant help with guys like Ridley ect ect
Didn’t he quell the noise only a few weeks ago. How many more times does he have to come out and deny it if it’s not true..?

On the contrary, if it is true, well no wonder he is laying low.

Pick 7 for McKenzie then Hawks on trade 7+8 to Essendon for Merret?

My issue with this, is that if that’s the cost for McKenzie. What’s the cost for Windhager?

In my eyes, it’s hard to see how they aren’t similar value.

Or it could be the Windhager pick which is likely mid teens.

We want Cam McKenzie. Have a first and likely more with Marshall and Windhager dangling about.

We could easily be the third party that helps this trade happen as we have the draft currency.
Why would Hawthorn give up Cam McKenzie though? Not when he’s contracted and have bugger all depth in the middle. There is no reason he couldn’t come on next year like Josh Ward and help propel us into flag contention.

Cam McKenzie is a top 10 pick that is in the sweet spot for our list development — which I gather is why the Saints want him too.

In a weak draft Hawthorn is not trading McKenzie, with years of development, for pick 7. It’s laughable to think that Hawthorn would offload two top 10 picks for a 30 year old Merrett.

I’d rather shoot for the likes of Zac Bailey and undercut the Dons as a far, far more attractive destination.

If he asked for a trade out, which some say hed like to be getting games and saints are obviousily linked so they think his head can be potentially be turned

Hawks could also push him out if its the deciding factor in getting Zerrett

Zerrett and Will day added to the current side replacing Worpel

Typically played a pretty tight 4, so whether Ward/Nash holds and play 5

Or Hawthorn could just hold him to his contract that he signed last year. A top 4 contending Hawthorn playing at the MCG every second week is a far more attractive destination than St Kilda — and he’ll get those games when Worpel leaves.

Why would he leave Hawthorn and embrace ‘Saints footy’ in front of an half empty Marvel instead?

Not sure I like the idea of throwing away first round picks that have 40-60 games and are in the early 20 sweet spot for 30 year olds on the decline. There is enough future picks that can get that deal done if need be without giving up McKenzie…

He would leave for game time

Zac Merrett is just another guy ahead of him

Fair enough, there are hawk fans who would happily give up cmack if it meant getting Zerrett, you wouldnt, but that means you may miss on Zerrett

Mate, he's been busting his ass for 12 years and Dons won't play finals for at least another 3 years. Most likely 4-5 being realistic

He hung in there for a long time. Can't blame him wanting out to a contender if true at 30

Main issue for Bombers is trying to capitalise in a shite draft

But a top 10 pick plus a good kid could be huge for your rebuild
he has a point, if you want out, just go, the trade rumors for the last few years do no one any favors, esp himself

No way should we be trading Mackenzie, I don't mind the club trading it's top pick because we have guys like him already on the list.

No way hawks trade 2 first round picks for a 30 yr old.

Also of the clubs Merrett could want a trade too only GC could make a better deal than what hawks could this year. And that's if he wants to go interstate.

Essendon could put the price so high it scares off all potential destinations, but you know your just going to be back again next year and his value will be even lower. But I will not be surprised if that's the route we end up with because Essendon have the history of making these calls....

McKenzie won’t be going anywhere

Don’t stress yourself

In this hypothetical you aren't giving 2 top 10 picks...........

The picks are diluted from early access rights. Pick 8 ends up being pick 14 or something like that, not to mention the draft is supposedly not very good anyway.

There is no way Essendon are giving up their best player, with 2 years to run on his contract unless we get a very very good deal.

If all it took to get Merrett was a late first round pick 3/4 of the comp would be into him rofl.

I know my clubs dumb, but I have faith they are not that dumb.

What is Merrett actually worth to Essendon if they are about to undertake a rebuild? It's one thing if he as a leader really wants to be there, has the buy in, keen to mentor kids coming through. If his attitude is more what has been reported and he does want to leave, then how much value is there in holding him? You're paying however much per year and forgoing what looks like it could be two first round picks - I think if you're looking at it dispassionately and recognsing that the Dodoro 'hardball on everything' approach is a failed one then assuming Hawthorn are willing to come to the party you get the deal done. Hawthorn also have some players who are depth for us but would be best 23 at a lot of clubs who are probably open to a move if it means they can play regular AFL.

LOL 2 x first rounders for a 30 year old is crazy.

Anything more is bordering on the biggest trade price in the history of the game, which is crazy for a 30-year old 10 to 20 ranked mid in the league.

He has 3 years max at ELITE level, anything past that is a bonus.

Sorry haven't been following in draft that closely, who are the academy players that are likely to be bid on before pick 8?

Just trying to figure out if some of the comments are exaggerated, I know of Uwland who else?

WC, Richmond and Essendon hold the top 5 picks maybe top 6, then Saints, Suns and Hawks. The suns will need to trade that pick otherwise it's getting absorbed by the Uwland bid.

Which is precisely why this deal won’t get done. The loss for both parties is far greater than the reward. It would be like Shane Crawford being traded to Essendon in 2003/04.

Uwland, Patterson and Annable will all definitely be bid on before, and Harry Dean likely as well. Not to mention the Allen and Draper compo picks.
