He's 30 years old next month and a career loser. He's a good player, but he's a soon to be 6 time B&F winner because he plays for Essendon. Bit like Dayne Zorko for mine. Zorko is still great at 36 and has been a big part of their extended run at the top but he's not winning 4 B&Fs in a row in the current side. If his individual accolades lined up with Brisbane's run of making multiple prelims and GFs rather than finishing bottom 4 he would be in different conversations. Someone will win our B&F this year and whoever it is was absolutely nowhere near the AA side while other teams had multiple reps.

Dons would want a king's ransom to let him go. But (a) he's not worth it, and (b) the only teams who have it to offer shouldn't. A first round pick from a contender (or two) doesn't really do a lot for Essendon, and if you are already in the mix why would you offer more?

Dane Zorko was an AA in 2024 when Brisbane won the Premiership?

As I have said don't begrudge him at all for wanting to go get success - he likely won't see it in his time with us, the issue is if he does request a trade, how does Hawthorn stump up the currency it will take to get him.

Theres no way we accept your 2025 First and your 2026 Future First so it will be interesting to see how it plays out if he does ask for a trade...........on second thoughts its Essendon so they may actually be that stupid.

This is actually a great point. I made this same point in our board.
Either stay the course and help your club going frwd or man up and just let the Essendon club know of your intentions of leaving so they can plan accordingly. Even the bombers would be getting a bit frustrated internally about this whole is he in or out situation end of every year.

I’d love Merrett next year. Much more than Petracca as Merrett I feel is still playing at a AA level which Trac I don’t think reaches those heights not too mention his kicking is out of whack. That being said hawks won’t be trading two firsts for a 30 year old that’s just solidly ridiculous. A top 10 pick is already a fair bit and what I’d imagine the hawks will offer. McKenzie will stay considering we’re two mids short and don’t have great depth there beyond CMAC.

2 mid/late firsts is way unders, you would surely be premiership favs with him for the next 3 years. Your current top 10 pick is really about pick 14 or so after FA compo and academys are done. Given Essendon already have higher picks than that, in a weak draft I would think that doesnt have a lot of value to them.

Knowing our stupid club they will get fleeced by Hawks.

They have history gave us shotgun Williams with cooked knees and the pick we got for Andrew Lovett we gave to them and helped them land Shaun Burgoyne.

If you're hanging your hat on Jay Clark’s opinion you should know that he also said that the deal would have to include Carlton’s first (held by Hawthorn). And also that Hawthorn would want either Merrett or Petracca for list need reasons, and have 7 figures in cap space to spend after missing out on Harley Reid.

If it aint, the noise has been loud the past week or two and we certainly havnt heard anything from Zac himself

We want Cam McKenzie. Have a first and likely more with Marshall and Windhager dangling about.

We could easily be the third party that helps this trade happen as we have the draft currency.
