What did Brisvegas give us for Fev... a dual Coleman winner.

They gave us a 20 year old Lachie Henderson and pick 12.

We gave them a 29 year old Fev and our second round pick (pick 27). We also paid 100k of his salary for the next 2 years.

As for the Judd deal, we offered them a straight swap of Fev for Judd. They said they wanted a young talent and so we offered a choice of Bower and Kennedy. They leapt on Kennedy.

Yep. Fev did damage his value a little though with his off field antics and our obvious desire to trade him...

I'm sorry, but comparing Charlie to Fev is a bit ridiculous due to the reasons for Fev's departure.

We know curnow is a great runner, how does Walter go in the 2 kms etc?
I think that’s one of the great myths of footy, if Charlie was such a great runner I’d be seeing an infinitely better standard of actions without the ball than I’ve seen throughout his whole career
Harry does way more up the ground than Charlie ever has

Bringing in the big names!

I know you’re joking but this is the 2025 trade/draft strategy. It’s names like Reidy, Chesser and Khamis, and not Gulden, Butters or Bailey. Plus any youth and draft picks that come in like Dean.

There won’t be a $2m ruckman coming in to replace TDK and no $1m KPD coming in replace JSOS either. It’s the medium/long game we’re now playing.

I haven't seen enough of Walter admittedly, but he has looked more awkward off the deck than Curnow and doesn't look to have the same run and jump

I do agree with you though in general, I think it's a win
Maybe not Curnow at the same age, but Walter has Curnow covered athletically now. Comfortably.

The only thing Curnow would be better at athletically these days would be distance running, Walter doesn't have that tank in him. But he's fast for his size, is obviously strong, and has a huge leap. Suns team mates frequently predict him to be the most likely on their team to win MOTY.

What I think Charlie has on him not is knowing how to use that athleticism and how to use his body more, which is the next step for Walter. It's great to be a freak athlete but knowing how to use it is what matters.

Again, they could have worked things into the contracts that would have given them all the control that they wanted from the Sharks AFL bid. They didn't even try.

I think everyone in QLD footy at the time was surprised they didn't go with the sharks. They were more AFL ready than 1/3 of AFL clubs at the time.

We all know what Charlie is capable of. But his issue is between the ears. The laconic, lazy Charlie up forward is not a match winner and simply put, bad for culture. If he can replace the bathwater he drinks with an Ed Curnow branded beverage and lift his professionalism to that standard, then he's not replaceable. But if we're getting half-arsed Charlie, then he's not good for anything other than being paraded as some sort of cult figure for the kiddies.

"Suburban football club" is really underselling the significance of the Sharks on the Gold Coast.

Even today their membership numbers are going toe-for-toe growth wise with what the AFL has gotten out of the Suns.

The Sharks have over 55000 members (as many paid members as the Brisbane Lions). The Suns broke 30k for the first time this year.
People assume a club on the Gold Coast would be insignificant, but there was a period iirc where the Sharks were the biggest non-professional club in Australia. Back when I was playing junior footy there it was something we frequently heard.

That's change now they're in the VFL etc. but, nevertheless it's a significant club and always has been.

My concern with Walter is the go home factor as he is a Gold Coast kid.

Could a three-way deal be done with Brisbane where Walter’s lands at the Lions ?

Interesting a bloke that couldn’t get a game for west coast most of the year is seen as best 22 for us
Pretty sure he was injured before returning late in the season. Regardless, I have never bought into those comparisons. Someone like Ned Long plays every game for the Pies and wouldn't get a game for us because we already have 917 inside midfielders. It's all about the role needing to be filled.
