Caro reckons Charlie is more likely going to Geelong.

Everyone wants to go to Geelong ... wouldn't surprise me... greedy bunch, that lot.
If they end up winning the Flag ... it will be queue up Charlie.. everyone loves a winner, unless your name is Collingwood
I’d be genuinely interested to see what the proposed trade would be.

Even if they offered 2025, 2026 and 2027 1sts… that’s not really worth much. Could be pick 20, another late 1st that disappears with Cody (if that’s still a thing), then maybe the equivalent of pick 30 with the Tassie stuff.

Wonder how much their negotiations change with Mackie being promoted out of list mgmt to ‘executive GM of football’?

A few bits a pieces?

  • Key defender
  • Rebounding defenders
  • Midfielders with speed
  • Small forwards
  • 3rd tall forward
  • Wingers that aren’t terrible
  • Midfielders with pace
  • An AFL grade ruckman

Yep, only half a team short 👍
Have you sent this list to Collingwood. They’ve got a couple of these but missing some others we could add on. Like a key forward, midfield that don’t need walking sticks etc etc

Two different types of speed

1. Burst speed out of pack, stoppages, etc

2. Consistently fast

Many players have one and not the other
And the best type of speed that leaves both in the dust

3. Speed of mind/decision making/ reading the play.

Fastest players aren’t the fastest. They just know where to be

Caro is an award winning mouth piece for player managers.

I doubt Wright will have Geelong top of the list of Clubs to trade with - how many Hawthorn players or Collingwood players ever went to Geelong or vica versa?

Curnows mangers can banshee screech as much as they like.

If they do win the premiership then I expect danger to retire. That means more $ for Charlie

What could they give us for Charlie?

You would think after seeing Pendles play over 400 games that people might have cottoned on the fact that presence of mind & position equals speed.

Bloke is as slow as a wet week but after time slows down, it gets real quick when he gets the ball to the right spot.

Bloke can send it backwards and it still speeds up play

100% agree with you, although need to acknowledge that Pendles is best of breed in this area.

Can't necessarily use the 'but look at Pendles' as an excuse for every slow poke out there.

Geelong would be spending most of their capital on marshall. However, it is possible to get a third in 4th team involved some how.

Not sure how or with which clubs, but Geelong wouldn't be in a position to outright trade for curnow

Well it will be nothing as the Swans won't deal Gulden under any circumstances as his nearly their best player.

Zero argument on Gulden being nearly Sydney's best player.

But.....when fit, Charlie is nearly the competition's best player.

Zero chance. They have nothing to give. Their 1st round picks are trash and won't be getting any better if we give them Charlie. I'd be very surprised if his manager steers him towards Geelong. Gold Coast is the only team I see that could get a deal done.

We had the easiest draw and were struggling to kick 2 goals in a half in different games. Our game style and ball movement was horrendous. Next we're losing more depth TDK, JSOS, McGovern? Motlop? Yet the club comes out and says we cut too deep 12 months earlier???

We need to be honest here...

A significant part of our horrendous season can be laid at the feet of TDK imo (not helped by significant fall offs from every one of our other best players - Harry, Charlie, Crippa, Walshy and even Weiters....).

Of course, the Club picked Tom ahead of Pitto because he is a much better all round ruckman, BUT he put in at about 20% -50% most of the season, especially after the first few games (either because he knew he was going or he was thinking about going - doesn't matter which).

A firing TDK is one of the league's best....and has a significant impact on the outcome of a game... he was pretty much one of the worst all year.

Throw in the disaster that was Elijah Hollands... and the internal turmoil at the Club (was Jordan Russell involved in some capacity?)

That all cost us dearly.

Same with Sidebottom who plays outside mostly too….

Pendlebury and Sidebottom have elite levels of footy IQ - there is no substitute and it cant be coached, taught or cajolled. 15 years Collingwood have been feeding off these two - 15 years. They are teh plan ABC &D on field coaches for the filth.

I have a recurring post in the Draft thread every year.

I ask for nominations of which draftees are the ones that 'retain possession'. I don't care if they are tall, short, fast, strong, left/right footed, whatever.

Just get me guys that can break the field down, spot a team-mate, kick to advantage and keep the ball in our possession.

I use Sidebottom as my example. The guy just doesn't know how to make a bad decision and/or turn the ball over.

Edit: here's my latest example

Annual ferrisb annoying draft Q: Who are the players that retain possession?

I want the next Gulden. I don't even care about athleticism that much, I'd happily take the next Sidebottom; someone who gets the ball and has the vision, footy IQ and disposal to find and hit a target.

At pick #3 - from the little I have seen... this seems to be Smith. He finds open targets. He kicks to advantage. He handpasses to where his teammate should move to, not to a static spot. Anyone else better than him in the top 5?

At pick #38 - who's the roughie that hits up teammates time after time?

It sounds stupid, but all I want is players that get the ball to teammates....

How much salary cap has silvagni and TDK released?

EDIT

now add curnow of he goes...

= $> 2m in salary ap released

no add picks ( worst case 9 +19 for the fiorst two) + who knwo what for curnow.

= 2- 4 first rounders you'd think...

so with >$2M in salary cap and 4 first rounders who can be gotten?

forget teh steak knofe depth players liek CHesser - ...who do we want?
