Jackson leaving was never a real possibility in my opinion outside of when Pickett was potentially available, but even then, I didn't really buy that he'd want out and want to go back to his old club after just a couple of seasons and wanting to come back to WA, it never sounded like a realistic scenario. It's very possible that it was, but quite frankly, I don't wish to know or even be a part of any scenario where that was a possibility.

Zach Merrett apparently wants trade to Hawthorn.

Fremantle has to compete with this.

Barass. Battle. Impey. Amon. Chol. Ginnivan. D Ambrosio. Scrimshaw.

All played on the weekend. All started careers at another club.
Its very hard to compete when we either dont make finals or barely scrape in and then get knocked out in the first week. As much as we all hate him, Sam Mitchell cut that team deep and is way ahead of us already in the rebuild.

JOM, Bolton, Jackson, Brodie, Sharp, Aish.

Not quiet as good is it

10 teams in Melbourne means the chances of getting a high profile Vic player out of there is nil, the right thing to do is while bringing new teams in **** off some Vic teams.

Why did you add bolton and Jackson they’re guns compared to anyone on that list none there i’d swap for those two.
Jackson would be a top 5 player in just abou every team, you could argue Bolton could be in most teams too when he's in form.

It’s the depth of extra talent that they can access that’s the issue as opposed to the names.

We have done well with Clark, Bolton and Jackson and Voss but on average j over a long period of time we are disadvantaged in trade.

Bigger issue is we paid handsomely for any trade that’s good. We get nil free agents.

They got battle and Amon for nothing. Impey, ginnivan Chol and ambrosio cost basically peanuts.

Not an option open to us

Forgot Gunston who they have brought in twice from other clubs (Adelaide and Brisbane). He's so old that people might forget they poached him from the Crows. For pick 24. Just emphasises the point above how they have access to players for peanuts that we will never have.

They rarely miss with the players they target, and get them for unders.

Reflecting on what other clubs pay - if an OOC Judd McVee is traded to freo this year a future second rounder should be plenty.
**** Melbourne. They screwed us on Ed Langdon.

Geelong or hawks would not pay a first rounder for a player like that.

People are jumping at shadows a bit. On average about 55% of draftees come from Victoria, and 18% from WA. So proportionately the eagles and Freo should be attracting more home grown talent than an average Vic club.
Of course one problem is the Vic distribution is not even - the 55% isn't spread amongst 10 clubs but 5 or 6. But even so, we should be more competitive in getting talent drafted to a club outside WA back to us than we are.
As has been said earlier in this thread, the thing to worry about most into the future is the poor junior development pathways in WA so our state's proportion of draftees over time will fall

This is the key point. I’d even say it’s less than that actually. It’s really only the big vic clubs that happen to be in contention at that time.
This year there’s basically 3 clubs in Melbourne dividing out that 55% talent market you mentioned.
  • Geelong
  • Hawthorn
  • Collingwood

Richmond, Carlton and Essendon are trade non-entities due to being shite at the moment.

Bulldogs are good and in contention but a small club so they basically can’t land anyone (not even Neil Erasmus 🤣)

Melbourne and North are also rebuilding/crap and realistically not huge clubs either.

Finally the saints are flexing some trade muscle. But it’s more kinda cute than an actual threat to the contending interstate clubs. Paying daft money for players that would never get that kind of cash at the current big 3 vic clubs. Good on them for having a crack and they are carrying trade radio in 2026, but not really in contention. Not sure Chris Scott is losing much sleep over what the saints are doing this offseason for example. Hell - they might even benefit by jagging Rowan Marshall for a future 4th or something 😥

In recent years there is a well worn trend of gun interstate players heading to the same few big vic clubs.
Cameron
Smith
Heuston
Schultz
Barrass
Battle
Bobby Hill

Eg if Rowell had decided to leave the suns he’s not going to St Kilda. It would inevitably be Collingwood or Geelong or Hawks

Official press release:

I love the quotes from Ras. Keep up the hard work.

I love the Club. The Club is going places and growing, and I feel like I can be part of that.
“Over my four years here, I’ve had to work hard for my opportunities, but I’ll continue to do that because I feel like both I and the Club are heading in the right direction.

“I just trusted that and wanted to commit to the Club that drafted me.”

Old profile tho, a lot of key performers for them 30+ & a few just under.
saw somewhere they had no debuts this year too?
