For all the shit we give them I’m actually so jealous of the bluemoure thread. 90% of it is bullshit but at least they always have a fake rumour to get excited about

The problem is an equivalent thread on our board would just be filled with Freo fans making up rumours about how everyone hates JL and wants to leave

Tom Campbell re signing for Melbourne
You think it’s overs?

This years first round pic will be about 16-20, Tom Sheridan and Hayden Crozier instead of Mitch Clark…
we really had a horrid draft run for about 5 years in that period, made our bottom out so much worse

It’s the two first rounders that is over the top. Way too high price sorry.

Pick 11 will jump backwards you say to 16. So I agree we would need to sweeten this but not with another first round pick.

Brodie > F4 (Port)
Pick 11, F2 (Freo), F4 (Port) > Rivers and F3 (Melb)

I'd snap their hands off for that

I'd snap their hands off for that
I’m not sure if that is good or bad??

Quick AI search: “Snap their hands off" is a mistaken phrasing for the idiom "Hands off!"

I reckon Melbourne will be making it clear that it is “Hands off” Rivers and haven’t heard anything to indicate he is interested in moving.

Not sure whether my proposed deal is appropriate but one thing I do know is he isn’t worth two first round picks.

That means i'd take the deal without thinking about it

I've just realised Melbourne don't have a 1st this year, not into another other trade rumours likely to net them a first rounder so if they want in they'd have to be open to trading Rivers or MCvee with change coming back

I'd only want to be trading the first round pick for a mature player if the draft targets in that range of #16 to #25 are about even anyway meaning we could bring in a mature player for our first and get their second back with it, then trade our seconds for points to GC - with our NGA eating our first pick next year anyway.

For example, but not a real suggestion:

Pre-trade hand: #11, #29, #38, #47 (F1, F2, F3, F4)

Pick #11 and F1 for Rivers, #23 and F2

Post-trade hand:
#23, #29, #38, #47 (F2, F2, F3, F4)

GC hand: #6, #14, #17, #32

Our #23 and #29 are worth 1132 points, that's pick #12-ish but we might get #14 off them for that at the start of the draft.

Adding in our 3rds only takes it to 1527 points, just shy of pick #7, not enough to get their pick #6.

I don't expect gold coast to need to retain any of their picks once the show starts and all will be gone for points anyway so we have an opportunity to buy back into the draft again.

Alternatively, we can try and buy their last first round pick #17 with points from our second and thirds - it's currently at 874 points and #17 is 879 points.

Then go to the draft with the #11 and #17, even though they will both be pushed back a fair way. Get two first round picks, match bid on Whan after #40 with our next available pick and call it a day.

I like your thinking but you gave up 11 for Rivers.

If you want a distributor from half back who can play midfield, he's your guy.

Over 100 games, we should expect immediate impact with two years contracted to go after this year. I don't think they'd consider it without our best pick involved.

But it was just a hypothetical.

I liked it but you said go to draft with 11,17,40. You gave up 11 in the trade for Rivers.

No no, in that second example we gave our 2nd and 3rds for GC's last first round pick. Two different possible futures.

The reports of Jackson wanting out was always a diversionary tactic employed by Melbourne to take the focus off Pickett wanting out.

I didn't love Jackson as a pure midfielder in the centre bounce (didn't mind him as a mid around the ground, but got exposed in centre bounce imo), but a full pre-season in the role will be very interesting
