Looks like zero chance of getting Wilkie, North going to throw big $ at Butts, WCE front runners for Tyler Young. Jones delisted and Buku will leave. This leaves a weak defence paper thin leading into trade period so we must have some more targets in mind.

Probably no chance of A grader more likely B or C graders.

Not very optimistic

Couldn’t be more confident that we land someone

hopefully we throw bigger money at butts

It wasnt what he did on the day, its obviously something outside the field that upset a number of his team mates - we were flying into that final and stank it up massively.

We also stank it up massively multiple times on that run where we were flying (Brisbane, Port, Adelaide)

I’m sure whatever the Jamarra situation was didn’t help but the more common theme has been that we have a system and a set of players that are outstanding when the game is completely on our terms but are extremely vulnerable when challenged

Exactly. If we've got $1 mil to throw at Wilkie surely we can throw a fair bit at Butts and blow North out of the water. Who the hell would choose North right now? They're barely better than West Coast.
Only thing making them more appealing would be salary so we should be matching anything they offer . Position of need time to spend some kanga

That probably sadly won't happen.

We won't get Wilkie, we won't get Butts, we won't get Young, and now Jones is quite rightly looking for a new team.

Strap yourself in, take all your meds, be prepared and warn everyone in your household.

Come on down Stephen May!!!!!
I love your avatar Dry Rot. BRIILLIANT!!!

i think we have been very good at drafted talent with the picks we had for a long time. Pity we lost Bailey and Dunkley but does not detract how we were able to identify their talent.

However, you cannot say that about the ability to trade in top talent. Really the only one we nabbed in their prime or a real young talent was Tom Boyd.

Aker was passed his best, played some good games until turning out a bit of dis
Barry Hall passed his best but gave us a few good years
Adam Treloar fell into our lap and has been good except for the injuries.
Kennedy had a good year but hardly regarded as an A grader

We will pick up some defenders in this trade, but given our trade reckon it will be someone passed their best, B or C grader or a speculative pick who may develop.

You may think this is pessimistic, but it is just the facts. I am happy for you to give examples of the A Grade we have traded in to our club in say last 20 years

We'd certainly be more attractive in terms of us playing finals, but you can't forget the #1 priority for most fringe players is to actually play AFL each week (not VFL). So players like Butts and Young might think at least I'll definitely play at West Coast or North.

He may be a tool but it hardly cost us that game. Hawks dominated us from opening bounce.
It wasn't Marra's onfield failures so much as the fact that we were lacking in our usual single-minded determination. Our heads simply weren't in it which is why they dominated us from the opening bounce.

We need to ask ourselves why that was. And whether the senior players (allegedly) telling Bevo 24 hours before the game that they didn't want Marra to play, but (allegedly) being overruled, had anything to do with it. If that story is true we were never a chance.

Who to blame is a separate matter. There are at least three options.

Aw, I reckon they'll get a go in our backline...

You could also excuse any aspiring defender from thinking twice about playing under our defensive system.

But why? Why were so many players so off?

Hawthorn has been making us look second rate for a few years now, so that wasn't surprise. Plus only a few weeks earlier Adelaide also made us look like a bottom 6 team. Whatever angle you choose the result is still bitterly disappointing.

We lost the Hawks game because Bevo was too dumb to bring in West to play a negating role on James Sicily. We dominated territory in the first half but didn't score enough because Sicily intercept marked every entry. If West was playing on Sicily we would have had a match winning margin by half time.
