99% of 'fans' wouldn't care or even know who Merriman was..
Feel like the head of strength and conditioning is the second most likely person at a club to get the blame from fans for poor performance after the senior coach tbh.

A lot of fans looking for excuses know who's doing that role at their club.

Ummm...now why did we do that...
Make It Rain Money GIF

Darcy's weight / legs
Young's multiple injuries
Pearce's years of issues
Sturts knee mis management
Chappys hammys
Walter's knee
Fyfe (self inflicted also)
Freddys heart (couldn't help myself..)

We had the most 'best 22' games lost this season to injury.

Seem mutally agreeable to move him on. Just too many knickers getting twisted cos he's moved on to wce

I'm fine with this

Yeah quite a bit of players coming back and getting injured straight away this year and last. You can add Cox last year too.

Coaching and development => 16 wins.

We were in the top half of the clubs this year and the second best record against the top half during the season.

Does everyone here think Merriman and his high performance plan got us those 16 wins?

Could’ve just stayed with us though.

With the whole off field salary cap, he wouldn’t be getting much more at West Coast then with us
It really sounds like it was a mutual passing. He was on his way interstate but WC swooped and he goes to them. Matthew Innness has moved to Vic and joined Essendon. Matt has done a great job at WC. Gone from pulling spares out of the WAFL to having 3 names on their injury list and two of them are the most injury prone players in the game (Oscar Allan and Elliot Yeo).

We have an opportunity to recruit the best possible candidate and make improvements to what has been a pretty decent program.

Except when it’s the coach
💯

It seems the club wants to”appear” Ruthless here but despite basically 3 years of going sideways and falling well short of the boards own KPIs the club is more than happy to meander on and keep the status quo when it comes to our coaching group.

Joe briety installs about as much confidence in me as Freddy does going for a tackle

Like his run down tackle in our final against the Bulldogs? ;)

The Lions have a terrible injury record but unlike us have a lot of depth
Don't think they have much more depth than us tbh.

They've successfully covered around 6-7 injuries at a time and haven't gone beyond their best 30 players.

We went beyond our best 30 players this year and to me very few players didn't look AFL standard. Reidy, Narkle, Aish - that's about it. And tbh if another club had Aish on their list in this season's form thos board would say 'great depth' just because what he's done previously.

Yeah cool…redo the whole s&c team now…definitely not gonna set us back at all.

We go into finals with no one on the injury list and then let our s&c manager and high performance boss walk out with no one in line to replace them?
Well they were fine with Merriman moving on and they obviously didn't rate Jackson Dennis to replace him.

Fair point, might've been whats been holding us back too?

Dennis been kicking around with us for 9 years and Merrimen has jumped around from Hawks, to Melb, to us, to WCE.

I'm happy for us to test the waters, all the clubs would have access to the game data of oppo teams, maybe we're off the mark of the top teams in some metrics?

Power and speed would be a concern I would think.
Voss being the strongest at the club?
Those 1km or 2km time trials preseason
are too broad.
I’d like to see some who need sprint coaching, middle and long distance specialised programs.
You can really see transformations at clubs, ours still looks a work in progress.

Very interested to know what came up internally that they’ve decided they need to do a major shuffle up of the s&c though because from the outside it looks like they were doing pretty well

Our S&C was better this year but we have still had:
1. recurring issues like Young and Darcy,
2. issues with rushing players back like Pearce, and
3. issues with delayed recovery when rehabbing like Bolton early in the year and Switkowski later in the year.

Not the end of the world - could be worse but there's clearly still substantial room for improvement.
