Both are certainly better than MacKenzie at the moment. We have a list which is getting older so have 3 or 4 years of solid tilts at flags. If we managed to hang onto MacKenzie he would be in his prime then which would be great. But it would be an unexpected situation because he would be desperately wanting to play senior football.

The other thing is, and something I get a lot of negative comments on, we just cant rely on Day playing a full season. Im sure we would push for Gunston to go around again for similar reasons with Lewis. We would want to see full seasons from both Day and Lewis before thinking they were over their injuries.

I do. But like you have conceded the relationship between Merrett and Essendon is supposedly so bad they he would prefer play anywhere but.

I have also said it’s on his mangers to ensure a trade can actually be done at hawthorn before Zach commits there.

It’s on hawthorns and zachs managers to get Essendon a package they would entertain, otherwise the managers will have to find another suiter.

But I’m sure hawthorn will provide the necessary package to get Zach and it’ll be win/win, but let’s not pretend that Zach has all of a sudden lost trade value. Both clubs know his value.
