l agree but if it also depend on how Wright rates the list, if he is of the view we are a few years away with the right decisions l would not completely dismiss pick 2 involving multiple clubs being considered.

If Pick 2 is then getting a Butters or similar, maybe. But taking Pick 2 into this draft seems like a really underwhelming result. Most years, a top 2-3 pick will get you a bankable gun or someone with incredible x-factor. This year....I don't see either of those. I see a solid ruck-fwd who'll take 5-6 years to get going, a solid utility without a clearly defined position...and then a big gap and a reach for anyone not tied to another club via academies.

If there was a Rankine or Horne-Francis or Reid or Anderson - I'd be keen as mustard. But I don't see Pick 2 in this draft getting us a) that calibre of player, and b) one who fits a clear need for us.

Half the posters in here have no real knowledge of Walter but are happy to take a deal for this kid and a crappy first rounder?

We have seriously lost the plot if that’s where we are at. Charlie Curnow is a superstar in his prime. You pay overs or you don’t get him. Simple as that. Humphrey, Flanders and F1 type stuff. If it’s Sydney, Gulden, or Blakey and plenty more or don’t bother.

Our standards as a club need to lift.
“Walter and F1” for Charlie ****ing Curnow 😂😂 can’t believe the shit I’ve been reading that is posted on here.

Our defence was terrible. Some numbers make it look ok because we’d flood back so aggressively, but we couldn’t maintain a functioning zone at even a vfl standard, can’t hand off, seemingly have ignored the existence of kickouts… the only time our defense looked marginally functional was when we ditched everything and went purely man on man. Complete shambles.
Yes, as per Adam Kingsley's comment.
I do think we looked a LOT better when JSOS went back.
Gave us some sort of structure and Weiters a lot more freedom without worrying about getting back to the square.

Yeah, so that can still happen, it'll just be a 3 way trade. It won't be done last minute, but it won't be revealed until then, they want to milk trade period as much as they can.

Not always how it works. If a bunch of other deals are stalled until a 3-4 club Curnow trade went through, they'd drop it at the end of the first week. They don't want the whole trade period to shut down for two weeks cause everything else is waiting on one deal.

They'd then milk the (presumably) very protracted negotiations for Merrett until 5mins before the deadline.

Another consideration is what does loosing Charlie do to our supporter base? Are we then in a rebuild, a mini rebuild, a reset, are finals possible? Could 100,000 members drop to 80,000 or even 75,000? Walter and F1 doesn’t make up for what the club stands to loose and is way unders for the Sydney/Buddy like boost GC will get for acquiring Charlie.

Doesn't matter - you don't make list decisions based on supporter popularity polls. Make decisions that improve the club, win games...memberships follow.

Don't GCS have 3 top academy kids to get this year, and 6, 13 and 16 (or something like that) to get them? And isn't next year the last draft before Tas screws everybody's collective pooches? GC probably have academy kids next year too.
Where are all these 1st round picks coming from to pay for Charlie as well?

Good kids and developing stars are their currency. That's where we need to clean up.

Using Curnow to get Walters is intreaging. There is every chance that Walters is the next gun key forward of his generation coming through. It could very well be the deal that we regret doing.

Obviously if they really want it, you squeeze them. You get a first round pick as well at least. You do the deal if you can get another A grade player to agree to come to us. So if Charlie goes, you make sure it's Walter and say Butters for example. Not a draftee. Future picks or you get them to trade something in this draft and they just have to sacrifice an academy player.

If it's Sydney, I am less interested in them because I want a young gun key forward coming in if Curnow is going out.

Honestly, Walter looks like a Curnow clone, so for me it's him and an established gun or Curnow stays.

Think the Judd trade but this time we are West Coast.

I’m suggesting that Walter and F1 doesn’t make us better than Charlie in the next 5 years. If the club does then I’d be very surprised and if they don’t but did a trade like that anyway then that’s very damming on where the club sees our playing list and our prospects for then next few years. I think he is worth much much more.

Westcoast got an untried Kennedy plus pick 3 and 20 i think for Judd.

If Charlie wants out you got to take a punt on a deal.

if we get 2 firsts and Walter or 1 first an early second and Walter. it's then up to the club to get the best out of the kid and hopefully nail one if not both of the picks.

Charlie's and absolute gun, but at 29 his value will start dropping quickly every year.

We can't expect to get much more than what west coast got for Juddy who was and absolute star and always gave his best, a true leader.

I rate Duursma- the Godard type- at pick 2 and a key piece of the puzzle

We don’t want to trade him so makes us an exatrordinary offer or he stays.Suns can say what they want.

Standard opening line from every club.
GC may well come to the party in any case …
But there’s no guarantee Charlie will if forced to stay using his efforts at times this season as a marker.
I’d be putting more stock in GW’s mantra … “Carlton First”
