If Charlie stays ... Carlton need to rise to a Top 6 team to keep him happy I reckon.
Means the team is playing well and Charlie is kicking Goals

My guess is that Carlton will hang around 12th again in 2026 ... so Charlie won't be happy with that and will want to leave again at the end of next season.
No. Carlton need to rise to a Top 6 team to keep US (the supporters) happy.
Charlie can take his Prima Donna attitude to the SUNS or he can knuckle down and come to terms with the fact the Club doesnt revolve around him, and make the best of his next 4 years.

It is necessary because I assume that because you post here a lot, you would know how trading players works and how the AFL player movement landscape operates, we talk about it all the time.

I do use my brain, I know the rules, yes your right, he either stays at the Giants or goes to the draft, just like every single out of contract player in the league who is out of contract and wants to leave their club.

They are either traded or they go to the draft, this is the same for everyone.

You are posting that GWS had some special power over Cameron and had rights to him and could hold him to some sort of deal. Which is false.

If they weren't happy with the Cats offer and refused to trade him what happens?

Stay at Giants under the new free agency contract or nominate for the draft which Jeremy would not have done.

So yeah, they did have the power. Restricted free agency was literally designed to give the original club some power and by matching the offer, the onus was on the Cats to satisfy the Giants otherwise they would have kept him.

If Carlton end up 12th ... Voss will probably go. Maybe that may change his mind..?

All guesswork
If Charlie is competing and kicking goals, we are not finishing 12th.

It is how things work. He was a restricted free agent. It's literally part of the rules.

They matches the offer so Geelong had to satisfy them with the trade. If the Giants weren't happy with the offer, then Cameron's only 2 options would be to stay at the Giants or nominate for the draft.

Just like every single out of contract player in the AFL system who isn’t a free agent.

I’m not sure how many times I or others can say the same thing.

Geelong had to satisfy the Giants in a trade, otherwise Cameron would have needed to stay or go in to the draft.

The same rules that apply to every other out of contract player who isn’t a free agent.

A club does not get to forcibly sign a player to a contract, this is not a thing, has never been a thing. This would break all kinds of Australian laws.

So, at what point is the ball not in the Giants court there?

You just said it yourself... "Geelong had to satisfy the Giants in a trade"

Therefore, they could have technically refused Geelong's offer and as a result they would have kept him because there was no way he was going to nominate for the draft...

End of the day, the point is, GWS did not have to trade him... they decided to. End of.

Cal Twomey saying JSOS compo 99% will be end of 1st round.

So Twomey’s telling me there’s a chance of an early first rounder?

I’m not missing that point at all. I’m going off what I know of the situation and the information that has been provided to me.

I expect Charlie to be traded and have said that for a long while.
l very much doubt any negotiations or discussion would be even close to a deal being done, the only people close enough to know would be Wright & Austin and Voss, unlike alot of hot air coming from the Curnow management team.

Also despite some comments on here Wright is going to lose some credibility based on his recent comments, if we accept a deal that is not exceptional in his 1st year in the job and a coach in his last year of his contract.

Again you be right but this won't be a easy one to get done simply because teams reluctance to give up enough to justify making this decision.

And that's exactly the outcome the AFL wanted by gifting them multiple priority picks and full access to their academy players. They have a ridiculous embarrassment of riches with more on the way.

They farted in the face of the rest of the competition because they knew the AFL would continue to deliver them goodies. How many other clubs have gifted a high 1st round pick to an opposition club just to get a player off their books. Or choose to allow an uncontracted player (ie Jack Martin) to walk through to the PSD and get nothing for him, just to 'stand up for their principles' when a couple of decent 2nd round picks were there for the offering. They couldn't have been more disinterested in 2nd round picks when the AFL kept gifting them 1st round picks.

At some stage they have to realise that there'll be quality players squeezed out of their line up who'll start requesting trades through lack of opportunity. At the end of the day, they could lose Walters, and not feel a hell of a lot of difference with Curnow, King, Read and Lewis still on their list as key forwards.

Are this mob actually in it to win a premiership, or just stockpile a pile of academy players and hope for the best.

The GC list manager is the luckiest bloke in sport.

Proven to be completely incompetent at his job yet nobody will remember that once they win multiple GFs off the back of the ridiculous AFL handouts.

Last thing we want is Geelong in charlie's ear. We never get good value off them.

C'mon GC, pony up a world of picks and players. They already gifted Geebung with a free pick 7.

Re Charlie:

Dealing in semantics here, but Charlie did request a trade at this his exit interview. It was not a mattter of casually raising it, he requested it. Clubs response was simple, your management better get to work. Club naturally don’t want to trade him, but the ball is squarely in his managements camp to broker a deal that will turn our heads. Simple. A good position for us to be in.

I think it's pretty clear that "if" Charlie is traded it will be heavily weighted towards Carlton.

There will be riots on Lygon Street if he's traded for Walter and Ned Flanders.

Net result from losing Charlie needs to be an A-grader in Butters or Gulden plus something else....which ain't happening.

Yep. The good old AFL makey uppey brand new “salary dump” system to get Pick 7 over to Geelong and then salary dumps being a thing just disappeared as soon as the ink had dried on the trade.

Bwahaha... yeah nah. He is our player. He is contracted. If a club wants him badly enough, they will cough up something that we will want. If they don't, then we keep the contracted player.

Here's a little aphorism you might know. Wish in one hand, shit in the other... see which one fills up first. Charlie can wish all he wants to leave the club, but the reality is that we hold the whip hand, not him. If we make him the most expensive forward in the VFL, then we do it. That's one way of fixing our toxic player driven culture.
This... players have too much power these days. He signed a long term contract, the club supported him through injuries etc. and now wants to leave for greener pastures.

If the club bends over now, who will be the next player to do the same thing?

Fix the easy out culture, get a fair(equal) return from whoever wants him, make him honour his contract (and become the player we hoped he would be) or play out the rest of his career in the VFL.
