IMO, if any club wants Curnow, they are going to have to give up quality players. Either some very high draft picks (note plural), which means giving up getting these players themselves(so, for example, GC gives up getting certain Academy players). We can then use these to get quality in either by the draft (and that's why I say plural picks, as you're going on potential, not proven AFL talent), or by on trading to get another player of equal talent. Or a club has to give up players like Humphrey, or Gulden, plus something more.
Personally, I believe Charlie will most still be playing for Carlton next year, but I'll wait and see what next few weeks brings...

Geesh theres another 4 weeks of this.
AFL really is a 365 day news cycle.

Preseason ramps up in January.
Preseason games in February.
H&A season from March to end of August.
Player movements/trade talk starts around April and doesn’t relent at all until the end of October.
The biggest OOC players are rumoured to be signing new contracts with their clubs as early as May and the same players are in the news weekly for 3-4 months if they haven’t re-signed.
Finals in September
Trade radio starts the beginning of October for 3 weeks.
FA/trade period officially commences the first week of October for 2 and a half weeks
Draft is in November
Preseason starts end of November/December.

Im leaning towards this also, there will need to be some serious fence mending over the summer.

No wonder I'm always tired...

Re Charlie:

Dealing in semantics here, but Charlie did request a trade at this his exit interview. It was not a mattter of casually raising it, he requested it. Clubs response was simple, your management better get to work. Club naturally don’t want to trade him, but the ball is squarely in his managements camp to broker a deal that will turn our heads. Simple. A good position for us to be in.
Exactly, do we really want our list management team to be distracted and spinning wheels during trade period figuring out how to get a trade for a 4 year contracted required player. Doing so, would admit to other clubs we're happy to have him leave and all offers given will be sub-par.

In this scenario if we want to keep him we've not wasted energy. On the other hand if we are open to a trade, when offers land they'll be closer to the mark and worthy to be listened to (and dismissed as easily), again with no energy wasted.

If Charlie remains and chucks a hissy fit, refuses to play, etc. Then as I've said prior get him for breach of contract and even look at getting his manager discredited or slapped by the AFL for helping drive such foolishness.

I completely agree with this sentiment.

The issue is that we’re oversaturated with football programs that prioritize manufactured drama over genuine analysis.

We’re in the middle of finals - the pinnacle of the season - yet most shows are leading with stories about Zach Merrett instead of focusing on the actual football.

On this weeks episode it is discovered that Zach Merrett has cheated on *, with another club. Whilst on a hot first date with Sam Mitchell, Brad Scott walked in and witnessed the event and is heart broken. Meanwhile Connors Sports Management has been organising a foursome event for Curnow, that would see him speed date Geelong, GC and Sydney over the pre-trade period.

Behind the scenes the Carlton Football Club has reached out to an old foe in Dodoro to help sabotage any efforts by Charlie's courters by promising him an opportunity to win trade week again.

A tragedy occurred a whale was found to have beached itself at the Lexus Centre. Decisive action from McRae whilst sipping a nice red, led to him and Moore getting the garden hose and spraying the large mammal with water extending it's chances of survival. Sadly as training started the other players just thought the whale was a new giant jumping bag and started taking speckies and kicking footies into the majestic ocean creature, giving it a major case of concussion and putting it into a deep coma. Thankfully the AFLs much lauded policy in concussion will see the Whale remain in concussion protocals for at minimum 11 days on the Lexus Centre turf, once protocols are complete the club will hip and shoulder the whale back to the ocean.

A club does not get to forcibly sign a player to a contract, this is not a thing, has never been a thing. This would break all kinds of Australian laws.

Player managers have a lot to answer for - they should at least be made to take a semester of Contract Law before being given a license to be a player manager - as far as I’m aware “I changed my mind” isn’t one of the basic elements of Contract Law.

I think May might be necessary.

Take his character out of it, we need another 2nd KPD with losing JSOS and HOF out next year.

Lewis Young/Haynes can't be our 2nd best defender next year, and Harry Dean won't be ready.

It’s just that you couldn’t answer mine. Players can be traded in contract. But not star for star like I’ve stated and you cannot give me an example
There was no precedent for the 10 or 11 yr Buddy deal till it was done...

Charlie is in that stratosphere - the AFL would love him at either the Swans or the Gold Coast.

A marketing gold mine. And that's all they give a f... about really.

They'll (the AFL) will be nudging a deal along in the background.

I expect a deal to be done and Carlton to be rewarded very handsomely.

Like the great Jack Dyer said he's just a good ordinary player, goes to water in finals games when the heat is on. Can't see how the Cats are going to get this done, GC or Swans if I was a betting man.
I'd say he's a bit better than a good ordinary player, but not a Superstar as some tend to make him out to be

I totally agree and have said this at least twice already around here.

What kind of handsome deal do you think, mate? Reckon they push a Walter out with 2 firsts? Maybe throw Flanders in if he nominates us?

-----------

Separately on May, I'm just not sure its worth it culturally. Given the stance on Elijah, I think we'd sooner go back to Liam Jones for a year than May.

there can't be too many players that have sought a trade with 4 years still on a contract. good chance it was front-loaded too. hard to see anyone coming to the party unless we invite multiple clubs.

Maybe GC, Geelong and Sydney can timeshare Charlie to split the bill. He plays Friday/Thursday night matches at Sydney. Saturday/Sunday matches for the Suns. And all Finals matches for Geelong. Simples.
