Look if you knew you would be 40 pts up with 5 mins to go you'd play him for a farewell. But clearly if we lose a player to injury and have to use the sub early they are worried about Duncan's speed and running legs being exposed. Him and Guthrie wont play again.
But clark has no speed or running legs and unlike duncan cant find the ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's also concern over his shoulder - he did ok in his VFL comeback but there was mention of a late bump to his shoulder

So depending on how he pulled up from that, there may be some concerns over his ability to get through 4 quarters if required

Golden Rule #1

DO NOT take an unfit player into a final.
There is an amazing coincidence in both Scott Premierships (thus far!!) where the opposing side absolutely gambled on playing an injured Reid brother (Ben for Collingwood and Sam for Sydney) and ended up losing. Badly.

There's a question over Ginnivan and Gunston, and Impey is sore too allegedly.

Depends on the player. Brisbane took neale in last years GF well injured but he has a history of playing well with injury. Some players can and some can't.

And we gambled on a very injured sj in that same 2011 game and he wasnt far off winning a norm smith.

Awesome exceptions to the rule! It's a roll of the dice/calculated risk though, isn't it? Faith either moves mountains or it shits itself while vomiting in the foetal position at the bottom of the shower.

Nothing will ever compare to the 2008 Grand Final. I went into that game with absolute certainty we were going back to back, not a hint of doubt in my mind.

That shit ****ing broke me.
Really? I was aware during the finals that we weren't exactly firing.

What I will never forget is the atmosphere outside the ground. The Hawthorn fans were so "up". I remember thinking, "Why do they look so confident?"

That's a small reason why I loved the way our slowly-increasing supporter base reacted in the QF. We were going to make ourselves involved.

And to comment on briefly:
never take an injured player in - we learned that the hard way in 2008.

Did Stokes go into 2008 injured?
Absolutely- said he was good to go, and was gone almost after the warmup; meanwhile, a resurgent Wojo was sitting upstairs watching.
Stokes' opponent was Luke Hodge

Bingo.
Played with a groin injury he lied about; 7 possessions. Just another cloud in the perfect storm of that day.

quote from The Age (25/9/29) "I shouldn't have played but I still did. I let my pride get in the way and this year I didn't want to make the same mistake.''
the date there fwiw, is a bit off- game was 27/9/08

In Italy at the moment , will catch the game tomorrow in Rome but landing back in Perth on the final siren on GF day👍 Hope it's a big W!

What an amazing Club we are privileged to support.
What an 18 years we have had since the drought breaker in 2007.
We are every chance to grab another Flag which would be amazing but even if we don't you can't help marvel at who we are and what we represent.
Go you good things💯
