Running Man Abandon Thread GIF by MOODMAN

Nick Austin sprinting to ring Jiath’s manager after tonight’s game, having suddenly changed his mind.

Nick Austin tonight: “Hello Mark McKenzie, when you sold me CJ Jiath, you didn’t mention one thing .. you never mentioned that he was a turn over merchant that can’t keep his feet.. no you didn’t! .. well .. ok .. that’s not my recollection.. yeah .. well ok, goodbye”

He's also missed large chunks of his career and had God knows how many surgeries on one knee, then had an Ankle injury that disrupted his 2024 and ultimately required surgery, then had more surgery in the 2025 off-season on that troubled knee.

He's had 2 fit seasons in the last 6 and, is 29 next season. The thing is, though, in those 2 seasons he won 2x Colemans, so the ceiling is as high as anyone in the league. But a 29-yr old with 2 fully fit seasons since they were 23 isn't exactly great.

I'm not someone saying we give him away for some future picks and a couple of B graders, but I can also completely see why no club has been exactly falling over themselves to satisfy us with a trade. Charlie is a blue-chip talent, but with a neon warning sign. That's not an easy deal to make for any party and is buyer beware to a point.

Lots of hubris is out there about how we should handle this (force him to stay and play him a full back in the VFL to fix his attitude, lol), but even from our perspective we should be considering what value we can get from a highly injury prone late 20s key forward. If he stays, he's a gamble to actually be regularly fit and getting the best out of himself, based off his history. Are we better off trying to get the best value for him now while he still has a premium? If he has another year or 2 disrupted pre-season surgery or another in-season lingering niggle, his value will be nowhere near where it is now.

While that maybe true, it means nothing to us, we’re not trying to sell him.

If a club wants him they have to, pay what we want. Paul Connors was on the 200+ podcast, and said if a deal can’t get done, Charlie is happy to stay.

CrippaTheGoat9 - I see your downvotes. What do you see in CJ?
I think he would provide some much needed run and explosiveness off half back as well as some much needed depth.

He played a quarter and half tonight so I think the criticism is a tad overboard.

He won’t cost us much in a trade, I think he will improve our depth and given a bigger role he can be a good player for our side.

Holmes and myres for Charlie. Won't happen but geez myres kicks into f50 are mind bending good
I was looking at Cats small forwards, Mannagh is OOC end of 2026, probably our best chance (though the way he's played recently no way cats will let him go, but you have to give up quality to get quality).

If out recruiting team and coaches didn’t know that before tonight, then we are some serious trouble.
That also goes for some others we are being linked with. Let’s hope it’s just media hype…..

Chesser is the only one, I would be ok with, if his injuries are good to go.

Curnow is an overrated show pony. We forget how many games he has missed and the games he has gone missing. Let’s get as much as we can for him and build a real footy team with grunt and power. We don’t need anymore selfish footballers.

TA
So you'd be happy with maybe a late first round draft pick or couple of seconds rounders?
