You would swap Houston for Jagga? Yikes

If the end result of three best 22 players out (all of whom play structurally important positions) is a “haul of picks” in a weak/compromised draft, 2026 and 2027 are going to be very, very challenging years from a supporter perspective.

I’m not saying you’re wrong around the adjusting expectations, I agree to an extent, but we are not going to be a very competitive football side without some experienced players coming in to bolster the list.
As long as every player has a dip, will be happy. From that anything can happen.
That, and much improved skills; hitting targets, slick handballs, decision making / field positioning along with defensive efforts spoils, tackles, smothers, intercepts….

Yeah ... sorry mate ... only used Chol as an example of a slacker who seems to get away with half arsed efforts quite often and is accepted by his team mates (& Coach)

I figure Charlie does similar and appears to also get away with it. Folks around here can see that Charlie is not doing a Dangerfield and throwing 100% into his game. I do wonder if Charlie is forced to stay and fulfill his contract whether he will be 100% committed to producing his best?
I dont know but there is a new wind blowing at Carlton in my opinion and Players are buying into it. Charlie is laconic but at the same time has had to deal with enormous expectation and a significant run of injuries. He is also being paid well so needs to produce. It is a quandrey that the club has to deal with. If we trade him then we do, if we don't then we don't.
Nothing i say or think matters re this issue.

The actual official Curnow thread

Discussion there on trade not allowed apparently

Actually posted there about grabbing popcorn when the curnow news first came out (in response to the number and type of posts on JSOS across multiple threads including the player thread) - my post was moved to the blumours thread

How about Humphries Flanders and a 1st for Charlie.....or Humphries Flanders and Walter for Charlie and a first?
Flanders is talking to several clubs including us so let's see where that goes but GC probably expect a first just for him.
Looking into Rogers since he was mentioned earlier I think he's gettable for more opportunities big crowds etc.
I think we will get closer to two of the types you mention than three, realistically.

IMO even Chol, who has been a very lazy player historically, started to work a lot harder than Charlie did this season, which in itself is a stunning indictment on how lazy Curnow has become. Aside from the Port games when he’d been whacked in the media the entire prior week for being lazy I cannot easily recall seeing Charlie do anything remotely urgent when he had to defend.

There is no key forward in the game today who is good enough to get away with being lazy. The days of Plugga and Dunstall not chasing are over. Cameron is the best forward in the game and works his arse off defending. There should be no excuse for Charlie. If he isn’t willing to work hard he wont get far, regardless of who he ends up playing for next season.

Charlie will not end up at Geelong unless it’s a fair offer. Considering they’re most likely going to win the flag they’ll be remiss about off loading good players as bringing in Charlie would mean they think they’re in the window and non Geelong best 23 will want to leave. GW will laugh them off and would be insulted if they try to be cute with any offer.

Once the dust settles and the AFL gets the soap opera they want if trade week over and done with and Charlie remains a Blue, Charlie will pull his finger out, because either we’ll have some success in 26 of which he’d want to be part of, if not Voss will be sacked and he won’t have to worry about him anymore and any new coach would probably want to retain him as well.

He is also very capable of coming out & kicking 60-70 goals in a season next year with a solid pre season free of injuries, cannot just keep looking at this one sided angle.
There are players who would absolutely suck it up, and are the ultimate professionals, who would roll up their sleeves and get on with it. I'm not saying that Charlie wont do that, but I think he is not someone I would back in to do it.

my bigger issue is - considering charlies salary. You dont hear about his leadership, you dont hear about his training standards like you do about Harry, he has had injury issues (self inflicted/bad luck/poor fitness dept) then all you have left is on field performance which was down this year. Thats a lot of downs with no ups.
The only upside is if he returns to form with us - and now he doesnt even want to be here.
Best case scenario is there are so many takers we could really spin this to our advantage

But he was in our leadership team. ;)

Did anyone else see doc on that live stream? He’s so adamant that we are going to be completely sh*t next year because we were dipping our toes into playing for the now and the future at the same time.

More I think of it, I am so glad we didn’t pick up Houston last season. We can jump back up quick smart if we turn Jsos and TDK into some prime movers and get our coaching dynamic right.

The fact TDK jumped on that stream with Lyon speaks so much about how aloof he is as an individual.

Seems like we we didn’t budge on the outside noise and now we can deal with what we have and what we can get into our club.

Won’t end up at Geelong period.

GC or Sydney.
