We've seen a lot of lazy Charlie (Mr Wrestlemania, non-chasing, non-pressure), and now that his peers elevated him to the leadership group I suspect the expectations from coaches, and some players is that he would step up and you know, show leadership. Considering Harry, Elijah, Kemp were pretty much no-shows for most of the season and we had small forward hot-potato being a weekly occurence, would've been nice to see Charlie actually show some leadership on field and off.

Charlie was given feedback. Charlie didn't like feedback. Charlie does what other people who don't like feedback do, and that is want to escape instead of facing up to it.

Unless a player requests a trade or a club is moving into a rebuild phase, still unlikely with most well run organisations, like Sydney, clubs won’t give up top 18 players. All clubs want to add and improve their list. Trading a top 18 for a top 18 doesn’t achieve the improvement. We need to forget that!

The choice for us will be to either accept picks, a player(s) not in the 18 or a player from another club requesting a trade in a multi club trade.

Let’s hope we stand firm on our requirement and don’t trade Charlie for the sake of trading. That would be a terrible outcome for us.
I disagree.

If a team is flush with midfield players & in dire need of one of the leagues’ best key forwards - every chance they could let a mid/forward go.

No way Charlie is let go for fringe players or picks alone - especially in Wrights’ first year.

CCs’ management is stirring the pot - the club & CC have been very deliberate in their comms.

Holmes, SDK, O’Sullivan, Miers, Neale and Dempsey could form part of a deal for Charlie with draft picks also involved.

There’s also Cameron and Smith but it’s not remotely realistic either would be included.
I'd take holmes, COS and picks for Charlie...

Dempsey hard not to like but he's not an A grader.

Miers, Neale are just steak knives...

This Charlie noise and carry on has got right up my nose. I know it shouldn’t. But it’s how he would have affected others that grates me.
When he signed his current long term and lucrative contract it would have meant some players took smaller contracts and others got no contracts at all and had their AFL careers ended. I feel for the people who sacrificed to keep him, worked to get his body right, lost their footy livelihoods.
He’s well within his rights to negotiate the best deal for himself but to turn around now and want out… strikes me as a level of selfishness that makes me pretty grumpy.
If his management cannot sufficiently compensate the club and yes, it should be overs because he has affected more than just himself with this decision, then GW is well within his rights to say that he’s found a club to send him to… the 2s.
I, for one, wouldn’t bat an eyelid.
Rant over.
I need a snickers

Flanders is a younger Hewett and an older Lord - which is to say he's a good contested ball winner with neat skills, a solid defensive game, and limited (though not non-existent) hurt factor. He's absolutely a good player. But he's not quick or elite by foot. Not sure if you're mixing him up with someone else on their list?

If we're trading Charlie it needs to be to secure players who address needs, not add to an existing logjam. He's a high value, marquee asset, and as such represents a rare opportunity to address multiple gaps with high quality recruits rather than 3rd rounders, rookie picks and delisted free agents. Squandering any of what we stand to get for him on a player we already have 2-3 of would be a massive fumble.
Couldn't agree more. I do believe Flanders is something we haven't got though and would be a significant acquisition. Is it Curnow for Flanders no. Be interesting to see what we can get for what should be one of the biggest Marquee players in the game, but due to his form, his attitude and our current general performance and reputation we may not attract what we would like or feel we should get.

I have my doubts, so I hope he proves me wrong.
I don't believe he can play back so I hope he can be a third forward.
At least this way, with him and Kemp we might play Moir further up the field. :)

Is Humphrey going to end up as a mid-fwd or a fwd-mid?
He's very much on the Dangerfield/Martin/Petracca trajectory. A power athlete with a still developing tank, play mostly forward early with impact minutes on ball, and then when at the absolute peak are the best attacking midfielders in the game, before post-prime drift back into the forward line mostly with bursts on ball.

He's still 70-30 forward, if not more forward. At this point he's mostly a centre bounce then get forward type, he's not spending much time in an actual on-ball capacity yet. I'm fortunate enough to sit right on the Suns bench and of all the guys who come to the bench he's the most gassed out of all of them, just about every time he gets to the bench he's on his haunches. (conversely Touk often looks like he's barely even taken a stroll, sometimes you have to wonder if he's even playing a game of footy lol).

It's not a knock as he's the type of athlete mentioned above, those guys mentioned above really hit their straps in their 5th-6th years, so he still has some ways to go fitness-wise but is on track. I do think Humper is coming from further back as a midfielder, though. He's probably the most raw of the bunch.

Disagree on Miers and Dempsey is well on his way - special talent. Holmes won't be moved but would be a perfect swap.

Miers is A-grade everyday of the week but so important to them.

I'd start with Miers or Holmes and if its a no, I'd walk away and block their number.

The smart move for the Swans is to trade Warner to the Eagles for Pick 2 and more - and then send Pick 2 and their first rounder to us so that we can get Butters. A trade like that would keep all four clubs involved happy and Warner and Butters head home and Charlie to a club he wants to go to.

Likewise the smart play for the Suns is to give up their two Victorians who are dispensable in Flanders and Humphrey and throw in a pick upgrade (their pick 6 for our pick 10ish) and they get Charlie. If we add two best ten players to our list and also move up so that we can get in one more top 6 talent before we pick up Dean then we would have done very well. Likewise the Suns will get better plus they have so much local talent coming through they can cover Humphrey and Flanders. Such a deal would value Charlie as a Pick 2 if we value Humphrey and Flanders each at about Pick 15.
Humphrey and Flanders for Curnow would be a great deal for us on it's own let alone pick upgrades, the reality is the Suns won't even trade Humphrey for a straight swap with Curnow let alone throw Flanders in.

Buku could become a cult figure. Not sure we've ever had a male AFL player from South Sudan.

My research tells me we had an AFLW player from there - Akec Makur Chuot in 2018.

Super athletic type and hungry for footy. Good age, too.

Look forward to seeing him and Chesser bring some speed and excitement to the group.

Hawks just made a preliminary with so called rejects so I'm ok with a bit of moneyball addictions 2026 is a bit of a recovery yr to show potential top end free agents to want to come to us, the club need to show them we are worth coming to

Just having fun.

I think they are all solid moves
