Marshall actually got drafted as a forward he had never really played ruck until getting to the afl he played forward in the vfl before getting picked up in the rookie draft that’s why I laugh when people say he has forward craft

Playing as a key forward in a much inferior competition 10 years ago might be a bit different to playing that role now with defensive game plans and 200cm+ defenders.

For all AFL intents and purposes, he basically is - regardless of where he played in the VFL.

Yeah, agreed. I suspect StKilda will run with a Richmond 2017 style single-tall forward line, till one of your tall kiddies steps up.

It's more about ground coverage than height playing CHF in 2025.
Otherwise we wouldn't see blokes like Mihocek or Logan Morris or Jezza playing that CHF spot.
None are 200cm or taller and those are 3 guys playing CHF for Final 4 teams.
You could argue who plays the CHF for the Hawks...i'll let you be the judge.

If you can't cover ground you're just plodding in space that clogs up the forward line.
Modern elite squads are playing 1 maybe 2 talls with a bunch of smalls.

Mihocek would be the first player the Pies upgraded, and the Pies looked much better last week with Cox providing a contest up the ground, Brisbane won the flag with Daniher and Hipwood. Cameron is in the Riewoldt mould, but hey if we had Riewoldt, who plays CHF would be a moot point.

Haven’t you heard, being contracted = 3 first round picks and star player

Saints will need to pony up if they want elite talent like a contracted Holmes, with 15 plus years ahead off him.

SDK isn’t getting traded so it’s pointless bringing it up.
It’s just certain people trying to cope that Marshall wants out in hope they can get something good in return.
Dogs fans did the exact same thing with Bailey Smith and saying SDK would be used to bring him in.

If you are losing a player, you rarely if ever get a lot back.

Picks and/or a fringe player for Marshall otherwise it won’t happen.

Saints wouldn’t pay for the price for SDK.

SDK is 24 and will be 25 by round one next year. Doubt he'd be on the table at all.

Merrett is not worth three first round draft picks and a player, not sure where that has come from.

I think a first and second is pretty close. I'm sure there will be a few Saints fans whinging about where that first ends up, but if we can use it to bring in more players it evens itself out.

Saints paying 1.7m a year to downgrade from Marshall to TDK, make it make sense.

Also since they’re dealing with Geelong, a future second should get this one done.
